Use of switch and galvanic isolation between router and streamer.

Has anybody experience with placing a switch between router and streamer? And what about a galvanic separation?

Have you ever seen measurements at the analog out of a streamer demonstrating lower noise floor, better jitter performance, lower IMD when using otical, audiophile ethernet cable, linear psu, audiophile switch?

Yes, I put a Netgear GS108 switch after my ISP’s modem/router and before my streamer. Linn recommend it and it’s a modest price. I later learned that the results are likely to be optimised if the switch is close to the streamer, so the Ethernet cable runs 10metres from hall to listening room (living room) then I use a 1m cable from switch to the streamer. That last length is unshielded and with plastic plugs to ensure a break from any unwanted noise entering the streamer.

My hearing is no longer acute enough to verify by listening whether the difference is audible, so I simply see it as good housekeeping. 🙂

Entirely pointless, unless of course your router doesn't provide enough ethernet ports.

Galvanic isolation is part of the ethernet spec...

For practical reasons I have 5 switches in my house. A house with 5 adults 3 gaming PC's and AV equipment, that is all connected via ethernet. I have one in the same room as the router, as it's an eero that only has one ethernet out. That then feeds the 4 others in the house (front room, cellar, my bedroom, and attic) and I also have a CCA connected via ethernet to that switch.

No, I have not, but I have talked to people, who have experienced a difference. I myself is doubtful.

I have one now. There is no audible difference when it comes to CD-quality. I havn't compared playing high resolution music.

Nope, there will be no difference at all, except perhaps in your mind, but a double-blind test will soon sort that out.

Galvanic separation would be of use for high and/or fluctuating currents. As your router has neither it really shouldn't have any impact.
