In my house I have a teenager constantly playing online games day after day on his Xbox 360.

I'm thinking of changing my broadband provider to another one with a 10gb usage limit - how much usage per month would gaming use?

Not a gamer but obviously some games will use more bandwidth than others. Suggest you download a broadband traffic monitor and monitor his normal use for a week any multiply by 4 which should give you a resonable guestimate.

If you have a teenager in the house you might be surprised by all the other downloading and video streaming which goes on as well, or in the background at the same time. Why not just go for a provider who can give you unlimited downloads...avoids any unknowns. For example, you monitor their use over the next 4 weeks and it's minimal...and then a new game comes out in time for christmas which behaves a bit differently. You're tied in to a provider and contract which costs a lot for extra downloads and you have little or no upgrade choices. Go unlimited just now and you've nothing to worry about.

It depends on the type of game and what you are actually doing on the game in question, but id say as an average youre looking at 50 meg an hour. Now thats just gaming.Youve got all your other internet use on top of that. General browsing, iplayer, youtube and any video or music downloads you may have. Id definately be lookin for an unlimited package. Well worth the extra couple of quid.

10GB does not sound much to me. Who are you thinking of going to and roughly how much a month?

Hi, who is your current provider? In my house we have 2 XBOX 360s (mine and my brothers) and also 3 computers, of which, at least 2 are connected to the internet almost 24 hours a day (either computers or 360s). Both 360s are used for online gaming and all three computers are used for 'sharing' files over the internet. We have sky Broadband with a 10GB download lim. This didn't seem enough, so when we first got the broadband, I phoned and told them about the 360s and they said that (because their unlimited services aren't available in our part of norfolk) they would allow us to go over our lim. and if we kept doing it then they would 'sort out other arrangements'. We have gone over by at least 100% each month for around 10 months and they haven't said a thing. I must warn you though, the internet connection was rubbish for around three months and then one day it just shot up and has been fine ever since, also (if you are not currently with sky, you may not know but...) their customer service is not great, other than that I would consider them.
