I have an extensive collection of dvds with a panasonic bd35 blu ray player. whilst the blu ray aspect is excellent, the upscaling leaves a bit to be desired. Can anyone recommend to me a dedicated upscaling dvd player to look at buying. I have a budget of 200pounds. I am after picture quality as my key criteria.

I used to have the Denon DVD-1940 1080p HDMI Upscaling DVD & SA CD Player (Black Multi-Region) and it was superb, you can still pick them up for around £149 that would be my choice, that would leave £51 for decent leads.

or go down the second hand route for a denon 1930 or 1940 and save a bit more,

Ausmember, I'm having the same feelings about a sony bdps370.
I've been using a Denon 1740 for almost two years now, and it's upscaling is alot better than the sony's.

So I can recommend the Denon dvd1740, which is the 1940's cheaper (or should I say less expensive) little brother. It's also a 5star product, and even cd-playback sound good.

Though it's discontinued you might find it brand new for about 100pounds online.

But I do have to say the dvddrive itself can be noisy with some discs.

This is renowned as one of the best DVD upscalers around. 2nd option is this. Go for the Oppo, or the Denon. You can't go wrong.

Another option is to sell your Panasonic BD35 player & buy a blu-ray player with better upscaling, like the Oppo BDP-80 or the Sony S760 or Pioneer BDP 320 / LX52.

My Tosh EP-35 HDDVD player is excellent at upscaling. Every review raved about that aspect of performance. I keep considering replacing it with a Blu-ray player, but am not terribly interested in Blu-rays and worry I'd lose out on the upscaling. They go for about £50 s/h.
