Have had advice from various experienced AV guys about this, I want to make a meaningful, future proof (ish) upgrade from my Onkyo TS-XR806 receiver which is currently powering my MA surround speakers.Only advice I've received is to go with the Pioneer SCLX 72/82 which seems to be a good choice, buta are there other options out there?????

There's always options!!

David, I appreciate that you recommended the Pioneer/s but if I'm gonna spend up to a grand then what other options do I have? I've kinda already made my mind up that one of the Pioneer options is gonna be the way to go but I'd like to know if there are any others.

I can get the SC-LX72 for £859.00 delivered......is that a good price??

What are you looking to improve upon from the Onkyo? Do you have a £1000 to spend in addition to trading in the Onkyo or are you factoring that in?

The 72 is an ok deal at £859 but if you are looking for future proof one of the newer machines may be a better bet. To get the similar sound from Pioneer you would be looking at the LX73. The Yamaha 2067 is a contender at your budget - the new range is doing very good things. If you can stretch it a bit then the Marantz SR7005 will give you a big jump in performance as well.

I have about 1K inclusive of the trade in value so about £800 plus the 806. I'm not sure whether to get this years model, maybe the Onkyo 808 or I can get something like the other model I mentioned earlier (TX-NR3007) which retailed for about £1500 last year. The Pioneer looks attractive too...would the Yamaha 2067 be a big step up from my 806?

I would look to the newer amps for the upgrade. The 808 is a cracking machine and you will hear the benefit going to that as well as get 1.4 etc The Yamaha is its direct peer and you would need to hear them to decide which is best for you. A step away from the Onkyo sound might be the upgrade you need.
