Hello,

Got constant upgrade fever *scratch_one-s_head* Currently got Rega RP1, Marantz CD6005, 2014 Macbook air with Audioquest Deagonfly v1.2 running TIDAL using decent cable to Zensor 3's on Pixel stands.

My amplifier is Pioneer A20 which is doing the job well, but I feel as though there could be more ??? I have a max budget of 300 pounds to change amp, looking at the obvious Marantz PM6005, have also looked at NAD 316bee, I listen later in evening at mostly lower volumes to floyd, zeppelin etc.

Is it a worthwhile move or should i stick with what I have ?

Many thanks for any wisdom you may share with me.

Hi Unlucki!

Nice system. The annoying answer: if there's nothing wrong with your system and you enjoy the way it sounds, don't change it!!

Not convinced? Then yes, the Marantz PM6005 would indeed be a logical (albeit not huge) upgrade for your budget, especially given its hugely entertaining, well-matched sound partnered with the CD6005. It'll sit well with your Rega RP1, too.

Making a bigger upgrade leap with the Arcam A19 or Rega Brio-R (both around £500/600 mark) will be more worthwhile if you can stretch your budget - or, if the bug passes this time, can wait until you can

Hope that's of some help.

Hmmm quote system still not working!

As you have vinyl, I suggest you hear the Rega Brio R amp. Its a bit more than your budget so I would look out for a ex demo or used one. I would say the Marantz is OK but not a big step up, my advise is make big strides with each purchase in hifi. I would probably save a bit more and look around for some used bargains. Ive seen nearly new Arcam A19s go for about £400, you can get Roksan Kandy K2 for about that also. Other brands to consider are Creek and Leema. Check they have a phono stage or you will have to buy a separate one which cost from about £50. So my advise is don't swap a budget amp for a budget amp. After that I would consider upgrading the TT if you use quite a bit.
