Unison Research Unico?

I've been offered this amp at a bargain price. Anybody heard this amp? Would it be a suitable match with my MA Silver 6's? Any advice would be most welcome. Rest of system is Nad 545BEE and AR t/table with Rega RB251/Ortofon 2MRed.

Used to have one. Before buying it, did extensive home auditions of many amps - Roksan, Plinius, Primare, etc etc and felt the Unico was the best of the lot. It's a hybrid amp meaning it's a tube preamp and solid state power amp in one chassis. To me, it gave the best of both worlds... the seductiveness of tubes and the grunt of solid state. And it's also fun to change the tubes to tweak the sound to your liking.

hifikrazy did you replace the Unico with the Audio Research/Bryston combo? Was that a big step up?

Yes, better in transparency, grip and speed, but I think the Unico handled voices better. Not a huge step up really, and as you can see, I still continued with the tube pre / solid state power combo.
