The Kingsway hall (the venue for the Du Pre Elgar recording) was a popular venue for classical performances due to it's acoustics. However the acoustics were often enhanced with Underground rail 'rumble' from the Aldwych - Holborn line, roadworks, traffic, sirens and the business of the staff at the mission itself etc. (the telephone for example.)
