I finally bought a HDMI cable for my TH42PX70B, however I need some help to understand some things.

So here goes :-

1). When i am watching blu ray discs through my ps3 the tv states 1080P. Does the tv then downscale to 720 ?

2). When watching standard dvds through my ps3 and hdmi cable are they upscaled as it still states 1080P input ?

1)Yes because it does not have 1080 pixels, only 720 pixels so can only display 720p.

2) They will be upscaled according the the settings in the PS3 menus and the screen resolution. i.e. you can set the PS3 to output 1080p then the TV downscales that to 720p. it may well look better to let the PS3 detect the screen resolution or set it to 720p. Play around and see if you can see any difference in picture.

Chrisky, your tv will state 1080p when that is being input into your tv. It does not refer to the resolution of the actual picture which may have to be either upscaled or downscaled to fit the screen's native resolution.

Remember, it states what is being input into your display - there would be no point telling you exactly what resolution the end-result picture had, as it is always the same - 1024 x 768 - ie your screen's native resolution! And you should know that by now!
