Quick sanity check please! ![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
Background…
Like many people reading these forums, I’ve been flip-flopping about what speakers to buy. I’ve switched back and forth between good style speakers (KEF 3500SE’s and Tannoy Highline 500’s), and more traditional speaker packages more times than I care to mention, but I think I’ve finally decided to go down the traditional speaker route.
My living room is 21’ by 12’, but the TV (Sony 52” X3500) and viewing area is down towards one end of it. Laminate flooring, though shortly will be replaced by proper wood.
The main seating area for the TV backs immediately onto a wall, so the rear surround speakers are going to be more or less flat to that and close to ears almost ‘from the side’ as it were.
Main use for the set-up will be probably 50% TV, 25% HD films, 15% PS3 gaming, 10% music. Roughly.
I have plans to add a Tranquil Harmony home server into the mix at some point to serve a silent media centre, and general home network file store.
With all that in mind, I’ve decided to go for a network friendly Onkyo TX-NR905 as a core for the audio part of the set-up. It would seem to me the natural companion for it would be something like a Dali Ikon 6 5.1 package.
Questions…
Unfortunately I cannot reconcile myself with them, as they’re gobbing ugly.
And the Misses wasn’t too keen on them either, so that bullets that one.
So I’m looking for alternatives. Something either black, or very dark wood, without compromising performance.
Discarding the Dali’s, I’ve narrowed my field - unless anyone has any better suggestions - to the Monitor Silver RS6AV, B&W 684 Theatre, or Tannoy Revolution Signature (though the review in May’s issue has put me off somewhat).
Firstly, those three speaker packages good partners for the TX-NR905?
Secondly, anyone have any alternative/better suggestions?
I’m all ears!
