Tweeter Dent

Hello all,

I thought this would never happen to me but it did today nevertheless, courtesy of a pesky lil runt that had to poke the tweeter in my centre speaker.

Is anyone aware (through personal experience) of a suction device or anything else that can rectify this?

Thx!

Ronald

You may be able to get the dent out with some non-marking sticky tape - masking tape or the like, or if you can access the rear of the tweeter and take it apart, by gently massaging it out from behind.

As the geezer who did the paintless dent removal on my car the other week said, it really depends whether the metal has been stretched too much...

Get it replaced.

The Rega tweeters in your R3s were not expensive. (Under £20 each IIRC). Ask your nearest Rega dealer to inquire.

The Epos ELS 3 5.1 speakers have guards over the tweeter domes which will make it difficult to get at for applying sticky tape. (And makes me wonder how it happened.)

Of course the centre speaker could be neither Rega or Epos but something else entirely that is not in the OP's signature.

Either way, get it replaced. At least - if it is a centre speaker - only one tweeter needs to be replaced.

Thank you gentlemen.

And yes, it is my Epos centre speaker that is affected by this.

I tried the masking tape but with the cover over the tweeter, as Chebby has rightly pointed out, it really is quite a tight affair to get to the tweeter, which I thought would protect this from happening in the first place!

I have seen a similar speaker (same colour too) going on E-Bay for £65.00 which I may consider if all else fails - which will include taking the tweeter apart. The speaker works fine though.

For the extra £35 I would get one of those from Epos' own online shop for £100. (Rather than the unkown from ebay). It will at least have a manufacturer's guarantee. (Give them a ring. They might even help you with a new tweeter.)

I had the same thing happen on some MA700's I took the magnet of the back of the tweeter and used a cotton bud to gently push out the dent. I marked around the magnet first so I could correctly relocate the magnet, looking at the pictures you could do the same.

Hi Ronald,

In the past I've succesfully sorted this by using a vacuum cleaner. With a narrow nozzle fitted you might be able to pull it back out. You need to be careful not to actually touch the dome, but it's worth a try.

Cheers,

MarkP80,

I had actually thought of that, but was afraid that the suction may prove too much.

I am neverthless going to try the 'cotton bud' and 'vacuum' suggestions this evening!

Thank you.

Tried a portable Black & Decker and a regular Dyson, and neither worked unfortunately!

The cotton bud did the trick! Took the tweeter apart and was able to gently push it in.

Thank you very much!

Excellent news glad it worked for you too
