Not me. Can't they do it in Milton Keynes?

I know you don't like to travel gel. If you ask nicely, they might come around your house and do it. *biggrin*

7th of November Leeds Trinity University.

See the HDTVtest main page for more details.

The exclusion of the Samsung 65JS9500 and the Sony 75X9405C, both of which now cost £1,500 less than their intial prices, at £4,500 and £6,000, inline with the two OLEDs, is in my view a very significant failing. Rather than just moaning about it on here and on AVForums I have emailed the organisers pleading for them to be included.

Why is this a failing?

Looks to me like they are putting the two leading OLEDs together in a head to head and the ZT for what was reference black levels etc. But maybe they will include them if they can.

Seen some of the comments on AVF, i am more than a little surprised they even allowed mention of this event without it being deleted.
I think it's a great shootout.

Not quite sure why AVForums would delete the link to the shootout? AVForums are not a shop, so the shootout doesn't conflict with their business.

As above, I wrote to Vincent Teoh yesterday on the HDTVTest webstite, and asked why no Sony and no Samsung. This is what I said

"I'm delighted that this event is happening, but extremely disappointed that the Samsung 65JS95000 is not included, nor is the Sony 75X9405C, which have now been each reduced by £1,500 from their initial prices and now cost £4,500 and £6,000 respectively, well in line with the costs of the two current sets that you will be showing. Any reason for their exclusion please? Oh, I won't be able to attend, but I look forward to the report from the event with great interest. But big shame about the Samsung and the Sony."

"Unfortunately hosting this sort of events costs money, and the retailer is operating on a limited budget. We only have access to the venue for a limited time, and more displays = more time needed to set up, calibrate, evaluate, troubleshoot, etc. Also, the restricted viewing angle of the LED LCDs means that we would have to ask attendees to walk around and assess every element of picture quality right in front of the TVs, which takes up more time - a luxury we won't have on that day. Therefore we have decided to go with the top two OLED TVs on the market, with a reference-level plasma as benchmark. That said, we may still consider putting an LED LCD up for comparison on the day, but as I've explained, we're restricted by budget and time, so no guarantees. Ultimately, video enthusiasts should be grateful that a retailer is even picking up the mantle (and the bills) to host such side-by-side TV shootouts. There's a reason why such events are so rare in the UK and Europe. Any other questions, just ask."

And in a futher email to him, I have his permission to publish his reply.

I'm struck that the biggest negative about the Sony and the Samsung is their limited viewing angles compared to plasma and OLED. Fine for a few people, but from the publicity photograph of the event people will be seated covering a very wide viewing angle, and the LED-lit LCDs would suffer.

Big praise to Crampton and Moore for hosting the event though, they deserve our custom!
