TV Link Remote control

I recently purchased a TV Link system to allow me to change the channels on my Sky+ HD box from a second room.

www.tvlink.co.uk

This system did not work however as the coax cable is run internally in my flat via sockets. Apparently this affects the power signal from the Sky box.

Does anyone know of an alternative way of changing chanel using a remote control from a second room?

Many thanks

Daveh75,

I have recently moved my TV (with freeview Tvonics) to another part of a room and connected the aerial to a different faceplate. Since then my TV link has not worked. I know the new faceplate still has the 'circuit thingy' behind it -whereas the previous faceplate had it removed. If I take the faceplate off and remove the circuit will the TV link then work - should an aerial specialist do the job

Thanks

It sound's like you've got an isolated faceplate fiited(which dont allow dc pass-through for the tv link),you cant usually remove the capacitor(isolation) as it's an integral part of the faceplate, best bet would be to replace it with a non-isolated one like this for example.

It's an easy job, once you've removed the socket from the wall it's just a case of undoing two screws to disconnect the cable!

Daveh75,

Too many variable's to be honest! But IME,no tv aren't usually that great at picking up DAB signal's.

For starters Dab signal's are vertically polarized(meaning the aerial needs to be mounted on a vertical axis) Terrestrial tv signal's are usually(but not always) horizontally polarized(meaning the aerial will be mounted on a horizontal axis). Add to that, in some area's TV and DAB signal's are transmitted from the same transmitters and in other's from different transmitter's, which could mean your aerial is not only polarized on the wrong axis but could be pointing in the wrong direction for DAB signals.

The only way to be sure is too try it really!

You also need to consider that DAB is a flawed standard to begin with, it uses low bit rates,in efficient/outdated codec's, has patchy coverage etc,etc and why a lot of people, including those on these forum's are using FM,Freeview/Freesat/Sky/Cable and even the internet as a source for radio instead of DAB.

All of which give much better result's than DAB.!

Dave- i recently purchased and fitted a MK non-isolated face plate. However, the red light on my TV link still does not come on. My current set up in Face plate to TVlink into RF IN of TVoincs freeview box, followed by RF out to TV. I still get the picture but am unable to change channel.

First thing i'd try is to connect the TVlink directly to the rf2 out of your Sky box, and see if the red led comes on then.If it doesn't i would then go into the settings and switch the rf2 out power off, and then back on again and see if the led then comes on(the reason for this is because the rf2 has a trip switch, and playing about with the connections may have caused it to trip).

If it's still not working after that, it's quite likely that the tvlink is faulty-they are quite delicate and easily damaged!.

If it does work when connected directly to the Sky boxes rf2 out, then it's most likely a poor/loose connection somewhere,So would check all the connections are good and solid, and that none of the cable braiding is touching the central copper core as this will cause shorts and the rf2 to trip.

I connected the TV link to the RF2out on the sky box and the red light did come on. I am fairly certain the connections are good at the face plate. I have TVlinks in other rooms and in these cases the rg6 cable travels through a false faceplate into the TV's i.e. no circuits behind the faceplate. These circuits appear to be blocking the current allowing the TV link to funtion.
