Hi, i am moving house soon and i am very limited as to where i can put my 42" plasma TV. One idea was to mount it on the wall above the open fire, but will that be ok when the fire is burning away.

No, no, no, no. Far too much heat.

EDIT - it was me asking this merely a year ago

Not recommended over an open fire; in fact, if your TV develops any fault, the manufacturers can refuse to honour the warranty. But if you don't intend to use the fire, it's a good option (like I did.....see my home cinema pics).

Well, i'm going to go against the consensus here and say 'yes', with a proviso. If you have a fireplace like mine:

with a dense mantlepiece, it acts as a heat shield, protecting anything above it. My mantle is marble and the top of it doesn't get hot to the touch, with the fire blaring. If you don't have a mantle, then I agree with the other fellas.

daveh75:Aside from the heat issues, mounting a TV above a fireplace will often mean the TV is mounted too high for comfortable viewing.

No problem. Get a set of these to sit on...
