Hi Guys,

i have got the upgrade bug and there is no way of getting rid of it.

i have kind of decided to go for the Tucana. Now here's the rub:

i found a Tucana mk1 at a good price (£1100) there are also a couple of 2nd hand mk2 (£1500-1800) and exdem mk2 (£2449) are these reasonsble price? I know some1 in this forum bought a new mk2 for £2k .

has any 1 heard or had both the amp what are the differences?

I Know this will get PP excited!

Bloody right. I'm salivating....

Alas, I can't advise you. Not heard any of them. All I can say is the Tucana, based on the Pulse, should be a fairly meaty upgrade.

I have one on Demo at the moment, I have been comparing it to the Hegel H360.

The Leema seems to have more detail and a greater tonal balance. It is better at low to medium volumes, also the sound is not as involving as the Hegel. I feel it has a more relaxing sound to it.

The Hegel has Super tight bass and sounds so musical, it really holds it together even at high volumes. I did find the bass slightly muffled sometimes but I could deal with that because the Hegel is so musical. You will loose detail compared to the Leema. This amp is all about getting into the music.

My Pulse is a watered down Tucana, but the one common facet is it's brilliant at lower volumes - and no doubt how it picks out the nuances.

Whether it's involving or not will also depend on the speakers used. What speakers do you have?

I am currently running Dynaudio Focus 160s, they arnt the greatest but there a pretty good all rounder.

The Tucana is a great Amp, I was laying on the sofa listening to it for a few hours tonight and it really does pull out the details of the recording. The thing I like about it most is the balance, everything is equally as good, in my opinion I would say its a neutral sounding amplifier.

I'm a BIG fanboy of Dynaudio. I would love to own Contour S1.4, but they are too darn deep to make them viable for my room.

I would love them too, I was thinking about going for ATC SCM 19 next. Need to get a home demo first though.

I think you will love them i promise. But howcome not the 40s?

My room is a bit to small for the 40s, my room is only 3.1x4.1 meters. Would love to hear them though.

They'd be fine firing down the 4m length. You can place them pretty close to rear walls. Mine are firing across my room which is 4.something wide.

To be honest what ever all of us say in this forum the decision is yours and you really need to find a dealer that is willing to lend you one.

If you buy used or ex demo equipment from a dealer you are still entitled to a 7 day money back garrentee, it must be mail order though. Buy one of the Amps try it and if its not what you want send it back for full refund.
