Sooo....

My search to replace the Rega DAC in on for the last 2 years, several devices were audition in my house: from Naim V1 DAC, Linn Majic DSM, Primare DAC30, Chord Hugo, Burmester DAC 113, among another 2/3 that I can't remember but inferior of the above.

The Hegel is here since yesterday, and today went to pick up the Auralic, and it is playing for the last 2/3 hours... And guess what... *shok*

You got a keeper then?

I already had one, the Primare was my favorite until now... And yes i've got a winner...!

It was getting complicaded to upgrade my Rega, I use mainly the usb input on the Rega and it is the best input that this DAC have. It has a analogue tone that i love and it was difficult to find a real up grade... Untill now...

My bet is on the Auralic...

... And yes it is! And i've the opportunity to buy this demo unit for 1650€ and have to give my Rega DAC in return. This is a no brainer deal, I coun't believe in the price...

This Vega DAC is a real upgrade from my Rega, if I had only one word to describe it, it is "intimacy", the holographic imaging is superb gives you the real sense of making part of the music. I could never imagine that my system could represent such hi-end flavour...

I've got until Thursday do decide...

Hi my friend

It's amazing the difference a better source can make, provided the rest of the system can convey it.

Enjoy your very musical system.

Yesterday went off to bed at 3am, couldn't turn off the music, I wanted to listen to all my library, that's how exited I was!

Today connected the ATV2 to the optical input of the Vega and was amazed by the SQ of Tidal streamed from my ipad!

The bult quality is excellent, the yellow lighting got an amazing feeling, after all it is a oled display, and basically was plug and play with my Synology NAS.

So far very happy with it!

Thanks guys!

The Auralic is growing under my and my wife skin, the superiority in music reproduction is more than evident, you will ear all your favourit tunes sounding very different. In some cases when the music starts we just look at each other and laugh, how the same music can sound so much better?

This is a real step into hi end reproduction, and it looks cool as well, not another dull black box in the pile!

Hi Cno! That is so true, Friday brought the Hegel HD12 home, my first choice was the HD25 but no units in stock.... The short time I've heard Hegel I came to the conclusion that it is a superior DAC that the Rega, but it costs 2x more.

As soon as I connect the Auralic And played the first 3 musics i knew it was it!

Why not buy some cables like these too?

http://www.audioemotion.co.uk/vertex-hires-speaker-cable-8405-p.asp

They really will bring out the detail, soundstage and your golden ears will love it!
That looks to me like an undeserved 'pop' at Mr Outlaw. Just because he has bought a decent bit of gear, and you favour a more modest DAC, doesn't warrant the above.

Quite so. An uncalled for attack as I see it, possibly jealousy-driven. However it was completely unnecessary.

It's official, i'm a proud owner of the Auralic Vega DAC, dropped my Rega DAC and a check of 1650€, it was the steal of the year...

Some times you just need to lay back and wait for the right opportunity. Every month I was looking in the pre owned section of Lisbon hi-fi stores, and it was worthy! *music2*

An out of touch pop, you really don't know your subject matter. Outlaw auditions a lot of kit before buying and so actually makes decisions on real sonic differences. And I can't remember him ever getting hooked into a cable debate. Go and judge someone else ;)

Always nice when people are mutually excited (whatever by!)

Sounds like we may have something here that would pass the skeptics' blind AB testing test. Interesting!

It would also be (in theory, if one could be bothered!) an interesting test of the rest of the system - can you tell the difference between Aurilac and Rega on systems X, Y & Z?

Hi,

This is such an exciting read - congrats on your purchase. Does the steamer have the same DAC as the standalone DAC? I've checked their website but its not very informative.

Cheers,
