I bought this set back in January..all wlland fine until yesterday when a lighter banding apeared on the right-hand side approx 4 inches in width.

I intend to phone Currys in the morning to take the set back.

should i get a replacement or a different set altogether for a similar price ?

Depends on your budget. The Sony KDL-40W4000 we tested recently (£1200) is superb and won our July Supertest with flying colours. It's the one I'd pick.
