To spike or not to spike that is the question?

I have just found the cross over setting in my amp and it was set to 170, I dropped it down to 120 and what a difference. I have now the base I like strong and couch shaking, I was surprised that my kube 1 could do this, also the fronts sound a lot better to. But still it sounds abit like the sound is in the floor, would spikes help with this rather than the flat feet fitted as stranded?

Hi Dean,

Really happy with them.
Are yours the silver ones? If so I think there the same size but slightly different inside and a nice gloss black.
Just going through upgrading my cables as I could not aford them when I bought my kit.

Nice sta99y looks great.
I'm going to put pics of mine on when I get my new blu-ray player and tidy it up abit.
Don't really want to put a slab on the floor, I think I'm pushing my look with the wife already.

All in one s are great for ppl that dont take it seriously or are on a tight budget, but a step up really is an understatement! its a huge diffrence imho. thanks for the comments on mine. Hopefully some nice ppl will give you some ideas on the sub question.

dirtydean:Has anybody put spikes on their woofer and noticed a diffrence???

My living room is carpeted (with underlay) over an old parquet wooden floor which is on top of a concrete floor. I have front speakers on spiked stands and the sub came with spikes to screw straight into the unit. I get very little bass thundering through the floor. It feels like the sound is very well isolated and travelling through the air, rather than through the floor which I think I prefer. Feels to me like it keeps the bass generally tighter.

I was surprised at how little vibration there is from the sub even when it's over cranked up and putting out serious bass levels. So I suppose spikes do make a difference. I suspect the solid floor underneath helps.

dirtydean:Has anybody put spikes on their woofer and noticed a diffrence???Yes, I did. The sub that came with the KEF3005SE's (HTB2 - the doughnut shaped one) had sticky rubber feet on it, which sort of rocked around on the carpet/underlay/chipboard floor. I changed the sticky feet for spikes to anchor it through the carpet into the chipboard. Subjectively, it improved it greatly in terms of articulation/detail and blending (with the satellite speakers) rather than making it sound any deeper as such (as was also the case with a REL subwoofer that I had before it). But proper positioning, running in for a lengthy period, and decent cables (mains and signal/input) also had a significant impact on its performance too. To avoid any arguments here, "improved greatly" and "significant impact" are relative terms, by which I mean the improvements were, in my opinion, very worthwhile for the cost/time expended!

Thanks guys.
I've spoken to my local hifi shop and they have some self adhesive spikes so I think ill give them ago, if I don't like the difference I can just pull them back off.
