Given the lack of response, I guess I'm the only forum member who's excited by Twin Peaks' return.

I'm holding off on buying the Twin Peaks BD box set until the price drops and sound glitches are fixed; and I refuse to re-view the DVD "Gold Box" set, as I'd rather watch the first two series on BD just before the new episodes air.

So, to Lynch-out in another way, I gave the Blue Velvet BD a spin tonight, which I haven't watched for nearly three years. I still think it's Lynch's second best film.

Second best after Mulholland Drive?

I find any new series difficult to get over excited about as I just don't have time to watch them - the only one I've watched in the last probably 10 years is Breaking Bad. Something new from Lynch is definitely more exciting than most new things though.

In my view. I'm guessing that's little surprise following earlier thread contributions.

I generally feel the same way. This is why I didn't watch Breaking Bad, which everyone tells me is the greatest TV show for decades. The new Homeland season starts this weekend, and I'm not sure I'll bother, despite following seasons 1-3. Fargo sustained my interest for one and a half episodes.

Twin Peaks series three will only run for nine episodes, so shouldn't demand too much investment. If you haven't seen the first two series, however, I appreciate there's a lot to catch up on.

Just watched 'Source Code', not too sure what I thought of it. I definitely didn't hate it though.

Anyone else seen it?

I've seen Moon, liked it, and still own the blu ray.

I did enjoy Source Code, but it didn't grip me, and I still can't quite get my head around the ending. *unknw*

I got Source Code a bit by accident , it was on my Lovefilm lost. I knew nothing about it before, but thought it was a great film.

Moon is a brilliant film.

Is it Man Bites Dog next? Only two weeks left to watch!

Is it also time for me to nominate?

No Ben, and it's not Lassie either. It's MY LIFE AS A DOG.

Nominate when you're ready.

Turns out Man Bites Dog is also on my lovefilm list so my brain was in confusion rather than total fantasy mode.

And Lassie?

I think the time for being last on the forum actually shows when someone last posted, though I may be wrong. I hope not too, although this dreadful site is enough to put off even the hardiest of souls. Still, I don't think Mike would disappear without saying goodbye.

I have the boxset of the first series of Twin Peaks but indeed have not watched all of it, and don't have access to the second series. As you say, though, 9 episodes doesn't sound bad, if I'm aware of it during the week it is due to start then I can set it to record; I know Clodagh will be interested.

You've reminded me that I did in fact watch the first season of Homeland, watching a lot of recorded episodes while Clodagh was away and before Asher was born. I thought it was good but basically not good enough to justify the time spent on it. Breaking Bad, however, is stupendous - but I wouldn't want you to blame me if you didn't care for it!

Can I ask, what makes Moon a "brilliant film?"

Hopefully the others will have a go at this too, but I'll try to give some sort of answer. Incidentally, have you seen it and if so what are your views?

I saw this at the cinema and despite having the blu ray don't think I've watched it since, so it is a long time since I saw it. Science fiction has a special place in my interests, and I suspect that is the case for many people. Therefore, special affection for me is reserved for a really good SF film, moreso perhaps than a really good action or comedy or drama. Don't know if anyone else agrees about SF and can think why?

My theory is SF appeals both to the child within us, because of the fantasy element, the often heroic story lines and for me an exposure to SF from a young age (in my case Star Trek, but I imagine others feel the same way about Star Wars, or ET or Flight of the Navigator), but also to the adult philosopher that many men wouldn't openly admit to having: a lot of SF asks questions about or own lives and morality, whilst allowing us to look at that in a context not directly related to our own everyday experiences.

So, Moon is on a simple level just a good story and therefore as a good SF film is elevated in status. It is suspenseful and has a great twist, which is not easy to foresee, at least in all its detail. It does also address some of these elements individually: we have a lone, brave, hero. We are asked questions about the nature of humanity, what it is to be us and what it is to be human. I'm pretty sure you could conduct a surrealist reading of much of it, although it's too long since I've seen it to try to do that.

Never fear, Mike is here.

Like many others, I have been visiting the forum less than I used to. However the main reason why I have not posted, is that I have only watched the first half or Requiem, so I did not want to post until I had watched the remainder. However looking at the recent posts, I do not see much reference to Requiem anyway.

Anyway it is good to see the posts by Strapped, because he has the in depth knowledge of films, to stimulate new conversation.

Right, my nominations for the next film. As already mentioned, a selection of animated films:

La Antena

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454065/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Black and white Argentinian animation, expressionist elements. A simple, beatuiful story with many layers.

Mary and Max

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0978762/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Somewhat more traditional but still very individual, shares the theme of a child protagonist with La Antena.

Waltz with Bashir

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1185616/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Israeli animation, perhaps the best known of these three. Remarkable animation and very unusual in construction, almost an animated documentary, meditating on war and memory.

I've found myself having a clear favourite among these three for people to watch but I think all will be enjoyed in one way or another and none is quite as difficult to get your head round as my previous two choices, La Quattro Volte and The Trial. Fingers crossed anyway!

Hey, good to see you Mike! I didn't think you would leave!

You really need to get round to finishing Requiem though - you're nearly three weeks overdue and your input would be appreciated! I also have a feeling you will especially enjoy two or three of the films I have nominated.

Have you seen Moon?

Nice to hear from you Mike, and don't forget My Life As A Dog is the film for October.

Ben, I'd recommend Belleville Rendez-Vous if I haven't already, really quirky and highly enjoyable.
