Hi Cno,

Have you tried the LS50 with the AMS? I just plugged them in and will report back later

No, as it means stooping to get round the back of my rack, and that is a no-no with my back......though I fully expect them to be scarily good,

Well..I just had an opportunity to bring down the 50s from bedroom upstairs while the guy is fixing my old plasma to the wall.(bedroom). Damn..my ht is all connected to the bedroom, imagine a 5.1 cable to pull and put back together. Rearanging this cable from sub to sur. is not an easy job! Continue shortly

....I look forward to your thoughts.

EMC 1UP + 35i + LS50 *yahoo*

The ls50 did really sound a lot better with the AMS. Despite the 35w compare to around 50w of the Brio-r it has more grip to the neck of the ls50 and with better control in every freq(£500 v £6k
teeth_smile.gif
). They did sound massive and reveal their true potential. I don't want to compare them with the Focals cause it sounds silly.

I have read many incidences of owners of much more expensive speakers, reporting that the little LS50s were not shamed when put in elite company.

When set up properly on decent stands, they do produce a sound that is out of all proportion to their size....provided the amp has loads of grunt.

You should get a listen to the New Refs when they become available.

Thank you for your concern, my friend.

My back is improving to the point that I'm considering the odd game of golf and planning a skiing holiday. I have been gradually building up my strength/endurance in the gym for the last 6 months, to the point where I can do a good hour of tough aerobic training (treadmill/cross trainer/bike/eliptical stepper).

It has been a long uphill struggle, but at last I am starting to feel that I can get my life back, albeit with a reduced intensity.

Hi Cno...

Can you please tell me what other remote you're using apart from the AMS?

I use a Linn one.....volume only.

Which model and no. ?

Anyway is ther any chance you would change or upgrade the AMS35i?

In my case.. I'll take it to my grave...

It's the one that came with the Majik DS....I suspect Linn use the same codes in all their remotes. You may even be able to pick up a cheap plastic MF one....maybe on ebay, or a MF dealer may have one lying about.

Since I think it would take too much money to get a worthwhile improvement, it is unlikely. I have yet to hear an amp I like more at under £10k....and I've heard many amps that cost substantially more, that I like substantially less.

Cno, there's a problem with my AMS. The left channel is not working at the moment. Tried to swap cables and source with no luck but the right channel works fine.

That's not good.

It should have a 5 year warranty, so hopefully it can be sorted under that.

I'll try to contact MF on monday to hear their advise. There's also JS Audio Repairs online which specialise in MF. Lots of good reviews from JSA which the owner was the service manager of MF for 3 decades until 2007. I also asked for a quote(repair) and just waiting for reply. Im hoping it wont cause me a fortune. They also do upgrades for most hifi units.

Please let me know how you get on....remember the Sale of Goods Act is also your friend and is independent of the 5 year warranty.

IMO. The AMS 35i is "better" than all the M Series, though not as powerful.

I have heard nothing under £12k that I would swop it for....generally, people who hear it, buy it.

Phew! War and piece!

"Dear Mr bank manager, they told me to do it"

The *problem" of upgrading to something like this, which no doubt will be a big improvement (these things are relative of course), but let's suppose that my system improves as much as plugging into the HPA amp with the DT880s, then it will be deeply impressive. The next step would have to involve a serious DAC upgrade, probably something like thew QBD76 which was super sounding, if ridiculously expensive for what it is.
