The Majik DSM Sounds pretty good but unforgiving on poor recordings - the installation guy thought majikm109s would be better and offered me a trial. I'm dubious but happy to give them a shot. The Harbeths are perfect in every respect apart from middle register bass which can be a bit thuddy - the 109s may or may not identify the speakers as the source of this problem.

Welcome aboard!

There is often a synergy between Linn components that people prefer, so worth a shot .....I have always found their amps a little cold and uninvolving, but it is very personal.

If you are not using Linn's own cables, it is worth trying ie. Linn Black i/c / K20 s/c

I'm not really a cable guy - seems like a slippery slope to me which might end up in moving house (shudders) - and the one box solution the DSM offers precludes an aditional amplifier. But as you've seen my opinions are not by any means written in stone - only recently the absence of an FM tuner was a dealbreaker as far as the DSM was concerned and look at me now.

The Linn K20 s/c is really cheap on ebay, and works well with an all Linn system. Even new, it's only £5/M....maybe worth borrowing some from the dealer, depending on your yardage.

Well....the last member of the hi-fi family is finally home, connected in 5 minutes and up and running already. Realised that the same server software which I was using with Squeezebox is perfectly compatible with the Akurate...so very very good.

Also just found out Itunes 11 can stream directly to the Akurate...a big plus also!

Impressive...very impressive. Still getting handy with the software so not really taking a lot of attention to the overall quality so far...

Nils Lofgren sounds incredible...I might now try to connect the Linn Black cable to see if they are good enough as now I am using the 770i :D

You really need something like the Linn Silver (or better).

I will be interested to see if your mains cable makes a difference to the ADS, that you can readily hear.

Nb. It looks lovely in black.

Which ICs are you using with the DS? Also cardas?

Yup.....but the Silvers are surprisingly good (now connected to an Arcam DV79).

Now I put the 770i on the turntable and the 550i to the Akurate...it's impressing how better the sound becomes whenever I go up the ladder with this Siltech cables...but I am sure it's all a placebo effect and I am imagining all of this...

Audioquest Sky? If you're looking for a silver interconnect. :)

I would have thought that copper might have a less edgy nature for the Akurate though?

The difficulty is putting a value on any perceived improvement.

What happened when you replaced the Blacks with the 550i and the 550i with the 770i?

Can you hear a difference on the ADS between the 2 Siltechs?

The Linn Silver refers to the outer sleeve.....it's a good quality copper cable that happens to work very well with Linn components. It often takes a much better one to beat it....and there are those that claim it is the best for a Linn system, regardless of price.

I haven't trid yet as it is too complicated to get access...I will patiently wait for the open rack on Friday and do all my tests. I haven't yet tried the Black. Now I am running the Akurate with 550i and phonostage with 770i.... :shifty:
