yes, extreme caution will be key, there's definitely no rush.

They have had them there for a while now so I should be able to go pretty hard on the price & it will only happen if they're willing to do a trade in on the Diablos.

But even then I doubt the funds are going to be available in the near future.

Damm my old man & his "rolling off around 40", he's forever planted that seed of doubt

Will report findings.

I guess it will be almost impossible to find over there, but just check to see if these Leedh E are available...if you can stand the design you might be positively surprised by those :)

What amplification will be used?

Amp section will stay the same Primo/AMS35P.

So if the 35P is not up to the job then they will not even be considered.

It should be OK though? Surely if the 35i can drive your Kefs Ok the 35p should manage the Scalas?

I know the AMS50 would have been more ideal but thats just getting plain ridiculous!

I know that's a shame but if it happens to you to come across those speakers just try to have a quick listen and tell me please if my ears were fooling me yesterday or these speakers are really that good...

If I am not mistaken, the Scalas are actually easier to drive than the Diablos, and I have certainly heard the 35i driving them all day at an audio show......imo. It's one of the times they sounded at their best.

The 35P has huge current and should be well up to the job......the result will be a very exciting life-like presentation, where the extra bass makes the sound so much more cohesive. On a good recording, they have that "you are there" quality.

Damn

You know I'm more a cdp man an yes at this point I have 3 in mind but only tried out 1 who was beautifful (the electrocompagniet).

But as I'm openminded I think I went with Alex to the first Linn pressentation....I had two words aftherwards "NOT CONVINCED"

An Alex already told you why....As I like the manipulation an the look of my cd collection, The guy struggeling with his set-up an connection was shurly not convincing.... an than using files from spotify :wall:

No he had the chance to have a prper demo an I was not there.....Just bad luck or is a sign I should stoy on the CDP pad... :?

There is a demo this evening this time I will not miss it :read:

I'm almost certain that your ears weren't fooling you......you have heard too much good kit for that to happen. At this stage your standard is sky high, otherwise you would have enjoyed the first demo of the DS.

The speakers you end up with should be the right ones, given the big variety you have listened to. For me personally, I think it's a shame that neither you nor Rob have heard the Refs on the end of an AMS (with a DS), but I suspect you both have found what you've been looking for.

Yes, you are right. I also think it was a shame as the Kef Ref as also stunning speakers and I liked those a lot in terms of design

Unfortunately the only shop stocking them is a "difficult one" and won't allow any home-demo nor a "deal" on speakers he has in stock which I find a little bit a closed mind beahviour especially in this world.

Plus I don't think my Jadis would make them justice. It's indeed a pity Rob did not hear them properly with the AMS as with the Plinius they were actually quite impressive...and I rate the AMS better than the Plinius. But the offer Rob took was honestly very difficult to pass...especially because he already liked a lot the AMS connected to the Avalon Idea...

the demo I went yesterday was so straightforward...not a single technical problems and we moved also stuff around. Plus this point really does not worry me at all as I consider myself an IT expert 8)

But i agree with you the demo in Gent Tuesday night was a disaster...again what a missed opportunity. I do not think the today demo will be any close to the one yesterday but it will be certaintly better than the one in Gent as I stated clearly I want to hear the Majik VS the Akurate DS with NO linn amplification...

In case the Linn doesn't work out (which it will - with the right demo), another brilliant CDP I've come across that's worth bearing in mind, is the EAR Acute 111 (with Dac): http://www.stoneaudio.co.uk/?product=ear+acute+iii+valve+cd+player+with+dac

Hi Cno,

When you say: a CDP with DAC, do you mean it's a transport + DAC, or can it be used as a DAC for other sources (i.e. does it have digital inputs)? Can't find the info right away on tinternet...

That's what holds me back from the Linn-route, at the moment: if you want a DS with a digital in, you need a DSM, with integrated pre+power amp (which I won't need) :wall: . Unless I misunderstand? :?

I have not seen this CDP, but have huge respect for the brand, and when I came across it, threw it into the mix.... Roby's link should answer your question.

With regard to the Linn DS.....you are correct.
