I enjoyed that bit of nostalgia! Yes, the early Japanese models sounded too bright, and the Philips smoother, but the far-Eastern products looked futuristic. Nowadays I think the Philips still looks classy, but I’m probably biased because I bought the later Marantz CD63b as my first player.
