The sub is HEAVY!!
Erhm,.... I want in hehehehhe.

Hi Ricky
Your welcome.
Or you could also test the new Aventage RXA3010 with your Apex speakers

Hmm, interesting. I saw this one online a few weeks ago. Looks identical (?) to the Aventage-3000 version released in the US last year, no? I always assumed the 3067 was the European equivalent, but perhaps it wasn't?
So whats is your impression of this one?

Spockie said:I bought my Apex speakers in June 2010 and combined them with the Denon AVR-3311 and the Sony Bluray BDP-S770. The system just sounds excellent. Not only music, but also "ground shaking" surround sound coming from the soundtracks of movies like Inception, 2012, Avatar,... just sound incredible. And the good of it all is that you don't have to turn up the volume to get well definied and harmonious sound. Even at lower volumelevels they sound very good.

I have mine inside a cabinet and use two squash balls cut in half to make four feet for the A10 to sit on.
You can see my set up in my link.
downtothebone said:Any down sides to having 3 A40s on front duty? At the moment I am experimenting with the front left on an A10 and the right on an A40 and I just get a 'fuller' sound with the A40 (obviously as there are more speakers and the extra height). The frequency is slightly lower on the A40 (50Hz as opposed to 60Hz), plus two Hive ports (which are quite bit smaller than the single on the A10). I'm swayed to having the fronts as all A40s.
All are driven by a Marantz AV7005 and MM7055 pre/power combo.

Fionn said:Hi All,
First post.
I have to decide between the Apex and the RX6 AV12.
I'm leaning toward the Apex (today anyway! ).
It has been suggested to me to go all A40 for the fronts, as downtothebone is considering. Rick, your comments are noted and just what I wanted to hear! ... but I still have a couple of questions.
Would going A40 not be moving away from the whole sub/sat concept? Why not then just go large for the fronts/system, like the RX6? I presume the A40 would be designed specifically as a centre, would it not sound different to the A10?
Also, anyone have the A10s wall mounted at the front? An Apex owner has said to me that they don't mount well as fronts, that they have to be mounted at a height pointing down and won't mount square, i.e., bottom of speaker parallel to the floor, back of speaker parallel to the wall. Is this true?
Thanks,
Fionn.
Fionn said:Hi Rick,
Thanks for the informative reply.
It's just the reviews! They are so good for the Apex! I am not in a position to demo so have to rely on what I read, reviews, owner opinon, and expert advice such as yours to come to some sort of decision.
The RX6 AV12 was to be my first choice, then I came across the Apex. They will fit better, firstly, and secondly as I said people (not just reviewers) are saying they are better for movies than the RX6 pack. I considered the A40s as fronts as they would not be much more expensive that the A10s plus the stands. I'm glad to hear you say that the A10s can be sucessfully wall mounted as fronts (parallel to the wall, forward-pointing at ear level), so I might just stick with those as fronts.
I have had an Onkyo 805 for several years now and it hasn't let me down. While I'd love to invest in a new amp, right now my budget doesn't allow it.
More thinking to be done again tomorrow!
Thanks again for the help
Fionn.
