Hi all.

Has anyone seen or done a review of either of these, cant find a thing. Do we know when What Hi-Fi will be reviewing these? Anyone think the 46" will be too big from 9ft away (sofa), other times will be about 15ft away(kitchen/diner).

Thanks

Thanks for the links, any suggestions on screen size, the more I think about it, will only be 7ft away by sofa, but from 15ft a 42" that seems small?

Cheers

We've got the TH-46PZ85 in our test rooms as we speak, so expect to see a review up here shortly....

One thing I can reveal in advance is how much more tweaking the set needs to get to its best compared to many sets (including from Panasonic) we've seen. This definitely isn't a 'stick with the factory settings' TV.

D'oh! I was looking to get the 42" PZ85

Having read the review on the HDTV site I was seriously looking in to getting one. I know how to set up a TV but I hate having to continuously tweak the settings (I just dislike fiddly stuff in general). Guess I'll wait for the What Hi Fi review to be put up.

That's really interesting to hear. I've been deliberating between the PZ85 and the Kuro for some time, and finally got to see the two side by side last week. I have to say that I was really disappointed by the PZ85, and in fact with a BlueRay source I thought the non full HD 42" Kuro was significantly better. When playing a widescreen format (ie with a black bar top and bottom of the screen), the differenvce in black levels was huge. The Kuro was far better. I thought the PZ85 looked particulalry bad displaying text. Less difference between them on SD.

So, could that be down to setup? The guy in the shop did say that neither set had been 'setup', and each was straight out of the box.

I'm still struggling with the concept of buying a non full HD set (ie the Kuro), but..........

Really interested to see the results of the review.
David.

I have the 42"pz85 and it made a huge difference to the picture quality once setup with the thx optimiser on the star wars dvd. I am very very impressed with my tv. The standard "factory" settings are miles off.

To be honest looking at any tv thats not properly set up is a complete waste of time. Especially in a store with bright lighting, and 50 tv's all hooked off the same source.

If you can try and get a demo of both sets in a proper demo room. Properly set up and in normal "home" lighting. And at your intended viewing distance. Any retailer worth their salt will be more than happy to do this if you have the cash burning a hole in your pocket.

A few people on here have seen both sets and said they where very very close in picture performance and black levels.

Looking forward to the TH-46PZ85B review. I have the money ready to buy the TH-42PZ85B but want to see the review on here first. I'm also wondering what the cheapest price anyone has got the TH-42PZ85B for is? I'm hoping to do a JL price match.

Sound & vision are doing the panasonic TH-42PZ85B for £988, so you should be able to do a price match with them,

I have also checked price runner & they haven't got it any cheaper than that.

John Lewis would only do a price match with a local store so I couldn't match it with the Birmingham Price. They have a agreed to match it for 993 which is still quite good.

Thanks
