OK, just bought a Ready Nas Ultra 2, 1,8GHz and 1GB Ram....up to 4Tb. This has Itunes server, SB server and Sonos application installed on it. Hopefully it will be a good choice...was 50% off normal price, bought for 150 eur!

Damn that is a good price.

make sure you really read the correct info for updating the SBS to the new version (now called Logitec Media server) as there is different downloads for the diferent ready Nas boxes.

I may also be tempted not to upgrade to the Logitec media version just yet as there seem to be a few bugs.....

I use a Readynas ultra 2.

Works great, and very quick. Upgrading "Logitech media server" is a PITA, but not difficult. (You have to uninstall, clean, install, clean) - all the instructions are given though, it just takes 10 mins or so.

Also, It's worth setting up the remote option. That way you can access your NAS from anywhere in the world...

Great to know...maybe I will ask for your help if I can't do it...but if you say everything is clearly explained that's ok!

On another topic, I see you have the ADM9T with a SQB...are you happy of SQ?

I will, thanks a lot for the advice! Was about to buy the Ultra 2 plus but wasn't worth to spend 130 eur more only for the dual core processor...

For now I have the Logitech Media Serve on my pc (waiting for the NAS)...and it seems working fine...which types of bugs are you talking about?

Good to know! Thanks for sharing. Did you also make the modification Toolbox 3 that you can find by googling it? :)

The Squeezebox sounds exactly the same as any of my other sources plugged into the ADMs...excellent. I personally think there is next to zero difference between digital sources. I have 2 duet receivers personally, and the sound is exactly the same as it is from my CD player, Tesco special DVD player and PS3. (If that was your question :) ). If you mean Sound Quality... Superb. I cannot imagine putting together DAC, Amp and speakers for anywhere near the price and coming close.

And, Nads, I have had no issues with the latest software (which I did with earlier versions, getting stuck). Although of course I'm on the x86 version, I dunno if that makes a difference.

No, just get 2 the same SATA II drives . Remember that by default it will form a RAID XRAID 2 array and the total available space will be the same as one disk.

This is useful as a 1st level backup (although it isn't strictly a backup) if a disk goes pop. But if you want to use the whole space, you can, just do that BEFORE you start putting music on it, as it will have to be re-formatted.

What about getting 1 disk (2Tb) for now and adding a second one later where there will be need? Don't really need backup for now. Is that possible to use it with only 1 slot full for now with a 2Tb disk?

Thanks again

Yep, no problem, I did that at first. But I like the reassurance of 2. I only have 2x1 TB, which is around 50% full.

Ah great, so I will stick with 1x2TB for now...and if I need second one (do not think that's gonna be the case for now) I can simply add...the Ultra 2 plus has a max of 4TB, correct? Thanks

i has 4 bays? then you can have 4 X ? as you want. Like I have 4 X 2Tb drives in my NV+ giving 5ish Tb in Xraid.

It has 2 bays...that's why I said it's 4TB max (2x2TB each).

After one full week of listening I am really amazed by the SB touch and how it works with a Netgear Ready NAS.

I was actually wondering, if I activate the wake on LAN option on NAS, woud it be enough to select a song on the squeezebox controller to get it active again? Or do I need any special software?

Thanks

Bringing the Touch out of standby sends a WOL magic packet that should wake the server.

That's great news, thanks a lot! ;)

Every day more convinced that SBT + NAS is a great combination and worth every eur spent.

EDIT. So if I activate Wake on LAN it will automatically shut the NAS down after specific minutes of inactivity? Or this is just an option to wake it up whenever is off (so depending on other configurations like disks spin down or power timer)? I ask because I don't see an option to shut the NAS down after xx min of inactivity).

Thanks

I've now switched my 1TB external hard drive (with 22,000 FLAC files on it) from the PC and straight in to the SB.

The SB server discovered all the files as far as I can make out and an hour in, all is well and sounding great.

Currently listening to: Chapterhouse - Blood Music

So you plugged an external USB drive into the SB Touch directly? Humm Im gonna have to try that, seeing as though I have a 750Gb external drive with power supply just sitting there. I have heard this can be unreliable, so gonna format the drive, plonk the 3600 odd FLAC files on it, plug it in and see what happens. If it works, would mean I no longer have to have the laptop turned on.

Still no problem; even tried ejecting and disconnecting the hard drive. On reconnecting, the SB server had to restart and I had to navigate back to the drive in the menus but it's all working fine.....so far

Just had a glitch; music stopped, had to restart and a fresh scan started

Still, can listen to Spotify or Radio during the few minutes it's scanning, but I'm hoping this is an isolated incident or it's back to connecting to the PC.

Just found my joy using a Netgear NAS with a SBT. Works wonderfully, super fast and very silent product!
