The cover I saw, over year ago, reminded me of the sort of thing you see in a bakers or a tea shop, to keep the flys off the scones and sponges etc.

But will a speedbox improve the Pro-ject sufficiently to justify replacing the cart? From what I've read from previous posts it improves curent and current stability (my interpretation), but having heard other current improvers such as power amps and speacialised mains leads they do improve things but not by much. Having said that, I could be totally and utterly wrong!

Lol, ah now i get ya. You can get custom made acrylic dustcover box doodahs for 70 quid or so. anyways, dust is cool 8) .

The speedbox should,if its any good,maintain speed stabilty and stop you faffing around changing the belt for 45s but as for owt else i dunno to be honest. Lets face it, its only circa 100 quid so accounting for dealer markup, henleys markup etc etc, its worth about 2 bob Can you ponce one so as to have a play to 'see' if you can hear anything different ?.

Are you using an onboard phono ?. If so i would look into getting an offboard job as you will get better results from your current cart that way.

Remind me what cart you are running please PP. i seem to remember it is one of the wood variety.

It's the Classic Wood Aurum cartridge.

Yup, the Leema has a very good onboard MM and MC phono stage.

I see , so its mc switchable, now theres a good thing. I honestly think you should borrow a dem speedbox from a dealer if possible so you can scratch an itch first. Then take it from there.

I think now the ClearAudio cart retails for about 350 quid, although when I bought mine, about 5 years ago, it only cost 110.

:? . . . PP, looks like you are going through the same processes as me . . . ? The only difference is you have a TT, I went in, virgin, with both feet and a 20 year old memory, that some say was 'rose coloured'?

One feels the FleBay Rocksan offering might be OK at the right price . . . which it appears it ain't?

Your present TT . . . how good is it? and here in lies the problem, finding dealers who will, accommodate you bringing your existing TT and have the same amp, speakers, or, . . . you can drag everything along to them for comparisons . . . that was a frightening prospect for me.

The advantage I had, 'Regas' have a big and genuine upgrade following, P2, P3, P3-24 and P5. It worked for me, I was lucky with my used purchases. Total expenditure has been less than £1,200.00 to achieve what I was looking for, requiring; time, patience and some self belief.

The journey, not everybody's cup of tea, but worth it in the end, I feel. Might be a few used P5's around, now the P6 is available, only problem, I hear through the grapevine, there is in some minds, a '?' against the P6 v P5 . . . CJSF

No disrespect to you, CJ - our circumstances couldn't be more different. I know exactly what I want (and have achieved) but I'm looking for an extra boost to my current TT and cartridge without losing the qualities I have at the mo.

Thats fine PP . . . all the work I have done, after setting up the room, the LB1's and the Croft, has been at the TT . . . I liked the LB1 from back in the 80's . . . the croft has fitted in like a pair of well worn shoes, no need for change . . .

It has been the TT that bugged me, suspecting (knowing) there was more, but not being able to release it, the sub platter helped . . . but it wasn't until I happen on the Sumiko, then the Carver MCt and finally working out the problem with the support furniture.

I have now been sitting for hours this week (off work sick), simply wallowing in my new sound . . . its wonderful, especially when I come across a vinyl gem . . . heaven.

Nice one: Genuinely pleased you've found the sound you love, after all the trials and tribulations...:bounce:

However, I know the TT is probably the weakest link in my system (base price of 210 pounds, isn't surprising) and I'm coming into a few hundred pounds over the coming months, so looking to add to the hi-fi coffers upgrading the deck and - possibly - source.

At the moment, in terms of tonal qualities and frequency levels it's about right, so I know exactly what to look for and roughly how much I need/can spend. I would certainly be very reluctant to part with the cartridge.

So for the timebeing it's about drawing up a short-list and taking it from there.

My collection is eclectic, ranging from big band, Jazz, 60's Brit pop, Punk, New Wave, Grunge, Funk, Motown, Stax, Reggae.... That's pretty much irrelevant. The issue is to build on my current system without losing any of the major quintessence.

A decent gateaux cover is about a 170 notes not 70. They have two uses though.

In some ways the Gyro looks too damn good. A fantastic example of design in 'STILL LIFE', but to me it'll look more at home in the Tate Gallery than a small semi in Surrey.

Sorry LA but theres no way on this planet that i would pay a ton 70 for a dust cover. You just need to look in the right place mate.
