Here's a bit of fun at my expense! I have £350 to blow on CDs! Yay!

But what CDs/SACDs should I buy? I'll give you a little bio of my music tastes and then I'll leave it up to your suggestions!

My favourite band is Pink Floyd, shortly followed by Yes. However, I also like things from Abba (lol), Van Halen, Deep Purple, Coldplay, RadioHead, Fleetwood Mac, The Police and I would like a few proper high-quality jazz CDs in there too...as for what to choose, it's up to you! I'd like to hear your suggestions!

ps. By the way, the CDs don't have to be from the above artists - it's just a little hint about what I like, but I'm always open to completly new genres!

START YOUR SUGGESTIONS!

What about some Alt country Son Volt - Okemah and the melody of Riot , Uncle Tupelo - No depression

Jangly Guitars - Primary 5 , Church , Easy - Ron Sexsmith - Time Being

Have a look at this!

You may want to check out....

Led Zeppelin

Ryan Adams

Jesse Malin

Given your liking for 70's pomp try Magnum

Have fun

What about a bit of Kraftwerk? You see were Radiohead's Kid A roots began. Very influential electronic band.

Or how about some Einstrzende Neubauten for some crazy German early 80s industrial rock. They use lots of scrap metal and buliding material to produce some really cool sounding stuff.

I came from the same direction as you, but my tastes have mellowed, so here are a few pointers to things you might like - Joni Mitchell, the Indigo Girls, Elbow, Eastmountainsouth (and Peter Bradley Adams), Jennifer Warnes, IQ, Kansas, Damien Rice, Danny Wilson, Del Amitri, Shawn Colvin, Alison Krauss (and Union Station), the first six Queen albums, Rush, Aimee Mann, It Bites, the Dixie Chicks, Ben Folds, Peter Gabriel, Genesis, Kate Bush, Jellyfish, the Carpenters.

Lucky you ! I'd have a field day with that amount of cash.

Take some time out and have a good scour on Amazon it's the only place I buy my CD's these day's and their selection is tremendous and also use the my recommened lists people post the various pages as I've found some amazing CD's this way (a bit like this thread I suppose).

As for recommendations here's a few of my favourties at the moment:

Moonmadness by Camel - bought this re-mastered CD recently and it's a belter

Songs Of The Beehive by David Sylvian - another classic, I bought this when it came out on CD and it still sounds amazing

I Advance Masked by Andy Summers & Robert Fripp - brilliant but don't expect The Police !

Abattoir Blues / The Lyre Of Orpheus by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - don't know if this is your cup of tea but what an album

Argus by Wishbone Ash - re-mastered CD and it's definately one of the best rock albums from the 70's IMHO

Black Mountain by Black Mountain - their first album and it's a real grower

Cold Fact by Rodriquez - a lost classic from the late 70's think Dylan on Mushrooms

E.S.P. / Porgy & Bess both by Miles Davis - waht can I say absolute top drawer jazz

Jazz Bizniz Volumes 1 & 2 both compilations and may be quite hard to find now but worth searching out. They are a superb showcase of different jazz artists and styles

Now by Stark Reality - this is a bit of a weird one can't quite decide if it's jazz fusion or Avant Garde but stick with it as it's a real grower and the musicianship is astounding

Nixon / (OH) Ohio both by Lambchop - would be pigeonholed as Americana but overlook that as they are just amazing albums

Reflections of Spain: Spanish Favorites for Guitar by David Russell - a recent purchase for me Spanish classical guitar tunes played by a master, an excellent Sunday afternoon album

Everything That Happens Will Happen Today by David Byrne & Brian Eno - brand new album by two masters back to their best

Fat Albert Rotunda / Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock - two of his VERY funky albums but amazing

Adam's Apple / The Soothsayer - Wayne Shorter two classics of his Blue Note years

Better stop now got carried away there. As you can guess I have a wide taste in music but hopefully you'll find something among these.

Messiah:50 Cent - you wanted a new genre!!

Funnily, I bought this last week:

There is an excellent box set of all the Radiohead albums. Only In Rainbows missing from it. I've got the boxed set - not a weak album there. Also got In Rainbows on vinyl. Very good album.

Hi Hughes, just a few I thought you might like though some are pretty hard to find.ÿ

Thom Yorke - The Eraser (you've mentioned Radiohead so you'll love this too)

Slint - Spiderland (Can be hard to find but you won't be disappointed)

Low - Trust (Try anything by Low, pretty diverse across the board)

Azure Ray - Azure Ray (bitter sweet, beautiful voice)

Ludovico Einaudi - I Giorni ( lovely solo piano)

Max Richter - The Blue Notebooks / Memoryhouse (Classical with a whiff of WW2 and Kafka / Beautiful)ÿÿ

Stateless - Stateless (Fairly similar to Radiohead, DJ Shadow raves about it)

Port Royal ÿ- Flares (underwater tingly)

Eluvium - An Accidental memory in the case of death (grandiose downbeat music)

Fink - Distance and Time (superb acoustic pieces)

Aereogramme - My heart has a wish that you would not go (scottish heart rendering stuff)

Halves - Haunt me when I'm drowsy (only just got this, similar to Sigur Ros, really good)

Mercury Rev - Alll is dream (oldy but goody)

Galaxie 500 - On Fire (Pearl jam era but more mellow)

Archive - Lights (Indie trippy hoppy deep stuff)ÿ

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac springs to mind. Classic album in every sense of the word.

Dire Straits have made few good good albums - Love over Gold for instance.

Second recommendation for Kate Bush. Brilliant. Hounds of Love, Never Forever, etc

Second for Peter Gabriel - So

Paul Weller - has he made a bad album?

Led Zep I, II, II, IV

Get some Linton Kwesi Johnson - Dread, Beat and blood. Rastifarian(spelling?) poet to dub.

Lynard Skynard - (Pronounced 'Leh-'N‚rd 'Skin-'N‚rd)

I also like Steve Hillage (from Gong) - fish rising

The The - every albums a winner. I particularly like Infected.

Has anyone mentioned Jimmy Hendrix. Electric Ladyland gets my vote.

Ohhh, I could go on..

Incidently Hughes123, you seem a bit flushed just lately. Thousand pound head phones, car and now £350 on cds. Robbed a bank? Or just won the lottery?
