Correct. And if one reads the manual it shouldn't be happening but seems to be quite frequent with those that go out and buy a turntable with an inbuilt preamp when they don't need one.....

I should've said, if they think they need one - use it and put it into a phono input (as many have done).

It's hard to imagine spending hundreds of pounds on a turntable - and being unaware of a such a crucial aspect of its operation (or not reading user manuals).

the old turntables have a high output MM cartridge, no need for pre-amplifiers and the impedance is selected on the phono input ,in aux.line is connected to a pre-amp having not the clear and capacity of the cartridge itself, No?distortion for what i understood is when a pre-amplifier is connected and already with a loud sound or when connected to the existing phono line?only never happened to me, the reason why i ask
