I've heard the SB-C600 with the Technics system you have, and I didn't find it especially bass light. How much have you experimented with positioning? This makes a huge difference to the frequency response of any speaker.

If you still find no joy, I think KEF is a good shout, and I suggest looking at the Q150 and Q350, often available at very good prices now. It may also be worth considering floorstanders, and top of my list are the Dali Oberon 5 and the Q Acoustics 3050i.
