Hi Andy,

Thanks for the settings.

The question I would have is when ever I turn on 200MHz on, people don't appear to be natural when speaking, It almost looks like the lip sync is out, I've seen this on all formats, Sky HD, Blue Ray and Standard TV (BBC 1 while watching the GP), it didn't look natural until that setting was disabled. Was this seen on your test?

Hi, i purchased the 9664 over the weeked
emotion-2.gif
and im very happy indeed, all sources look good which surprised me a bit as standard def is quite watchable, but hd is amazingly razor sharp and vibrant, cant wait to get a bluray player now.

just following on from a comment by colmartin23, this moring i was watching bbc news on sky, which is fed through my receiver (hdmi 1) and noticed the lip sync was out a bit, i switched to bbc hd which was showing some concert but the lip sync looked fine! i havent played with any settings on the tv yet as ive not had time, with regards to the lip sync what settings do i need to be looking out for? settings on my sky hd or denon 2310 or the tv itself?

thanks

The fact that it's right on some channels and not on others suggests transmission problems.

You could spend your life readjusting lip-sync every time you change channel, and it's not unknown for cable and satellite channels to drift occasionally, and then be right next time you watch them...

Can't comment on actual comparison between the 960 and the 740 32 inch.

But if you got to Philips .co, they will do that for you in theory

However I bought the 7404 from RS with a 5 year guarantee for 599.

I wanted a 32 100 mhz full hd and it was the best I could see with my eyes in the shop at that price point - better than the Sony 32v and w , better than the equivalent pana and LG . Didn't have the Samsung 650 which has also been well threaded.

At home the 7404 was way better than I imagined . Even the satellite engineer said " hey this is a good picture "

HD blu ray is superb - almost too good and the SD material off sky and freeview is as good as my 37 pana plasma - if not better for sport because of the 100 natural motion

the Remote gives you a sensible edge over that pana because it allows for way more fine tuning

Yet to spot an obvious weakness for an LCD. Maybe the blacks are not as good as the plasma but then we know that anyway.

Am intrigued to know if there is anything out there at 599 with a five year guarantee which can match or beat it

The test for me has been a pull to watch SKYHD on the 32 not the 37 - the colours on this philips are

thanks ear , i will check both of them over fully , actually ive just seen that they have the panasonic 42s10 for 950euros also , ive read the whfi review and its positive , it would obviously be better than my dodgy th46pz8b of last year , and seeing as i prefer plasmas its likely ill get that so long as the store agrees to change (ill be stern ) , however i will go with an open mind and report my findings ...

Hi Maxflinn

Why not the G10 if you're still sold on plasma, rather than the four star rated S10? Should be well within your budget. Interested to hear what you make of the 7404 -- the other TV I auditioned at length before opting for the G10 myself. WHF review of the 7404 is out today, I think, so heading out to buy a copy. Also, what happenned to your old Pana set? How old was it? Always worrying to hear of problems with products from a manufacturer whose products you own...

hi strapped , the g10 is 1150euros , i can only get something for 950 as that is what my tv cost and im skint
emotion-9.gif
so cant add any cash to upgrade , the panny wont start sometimes , only happened a few times but frustrating , however they refused to credit me and are sending the panny back to panasonic for repair , meanwhile ill have to watch a 2 year old samsung hd ready 32inch lcd for 3 weeks , yuk ... didnt see the philips as i phoned the store , ill post what happens on here ...oh , the panny was bought in march , im happy enough with it apart from the starting issue...

200euros difference , i live in waterford , ireland , and ive been credit crunched , so even a meagre 200 is too much , heres a link to the store , my tv cost 950 so if i change thats what i can spend http://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.buy4now.ie%2Fdid&ei=UUexSqrBJZOk4Qb7-PTxBw&usg=AFQjCNG-mT9Evsx7SrFFpoCDTYdEam89Bw&sig2=KT8UtD9aiFMcpw3v67C0fA

Hi Maxflinn

Shame about the 1150 euro price tag. Are you sure they won't price match, considering the G10 is considerably cheaper elsewhere? Can't hurt to ask the question. Thought WHF were going to review the 42" 7404 Philips in the Nov issue, but turns out it was the 32" and it won the supertest. WHF review of the 42" 7404 would be very interesting -- WHF team, any chance of this happening soon?

update , my plasma was collected this morning for repair , as the starting problem was becoming frequent , the store gave me a philips 5604 , brand new 37 inch while i wait for the verdict on the panny, initially i didnt like it , but after having a good fiddle with the settings its not that bad , quite sharp actally , so if my plasma ends up on the scrapheap i will audition a philips 42inch 7404 , its the same price as my plasma cost so could exchange , would like a g10 but i still cant afford the extra dough , will keep posted ...

there are only 4 freeview channels in ireland ear , rte1 and 2 , tv3 , and an irish language channel , sadly for me none of them come in too good , as i live the other side of a hill to the transmitter , so i cant really test the freeview , sd from freesat is fine though , ive not seen many lcds displaying sd to compare , but the philips is better than a friends sony 46v4000 , and my mams 32v4000 , compared to the plasma the philips isnt quite as good , but maybe thats my preferance for plasma more than anything else , im watching bbc1 now and i can see a lot of detail , very little noise , and since i turned the contrast way down skin tones look much more real , its not bad at all , as i said id like to check out the better philip tvs , they seem to be on top of their game at the moment ...

with 1080i on the stores the 6504 looks very good.it doesnt have 100 hz like the 7 series...but if tuners are equally good as the 7404 i might get one of these in a near future...strange the sd being better than the V4000 series..but then its an older series...i recall the late 5 series philips was bad with sd.very grainy, havent been able to see the new 5 series displaying sd material
