Tangent Monitor 9 - floorstanding speakers

Hi there. New to this site so be nice!

I am looking at some floorstanders tonight - Tangent Monitor 9. Was wondering if anyone new anything about these and if are any good? I hear they were awarded 5 out of 5 by What Hi Fi back in 1999.

I have a Sony amp - TA FE370 I think. Looking at bi-wiring it.

Any help would be great!

From memory, they'd work rather well with the Sony amp. Not jaw-dropping speakers, but extremely solid value for money in their day, IIRC.

I notice RS sell a set of Eltax speakers for about £60. Are these comparable and which set would you go for given the choice?

Don't have a spec to hand, but sure it exists somewhere out there in Googleland.

Given the price difference, and provided the Tangents haven't been abused (ie thrashed), I'd go for the Tangents.

But if you're picking them up, ask to hear them working before you hand over the folding...

I have the millennium 200 floorstanders.very cheap, go loud.Minuses: bass port on the back.very fussy about positioning.But very nice looking

Thanks for everyones help. Went and picked up the Monitor 9's for £30. Hooked them up last night and am impressed with the sound clarity for such a low price!

And yes they are loud! Going to spike and bi wire them next.

Hi, was thinking about picking a pair of these speakers up from Richer sounds, but was quite reluctant when they would'nt give me a demo on them.... what's your opinion on them, mainly interested in the the treble???

I had a pair of eltax floorstanders previously and the treble was non-existant, and as these 2 companies are related was unsure about a purchase without a review.

Any help would be appreciated!!!!!

Hi,

just saw your post as I was googling how my own Monitor 9s are rated. I think that they are nice speakers with well defined treble, so if you're still thinking of buying and it's around the price that the other guy in this forum paid, I'd say go for it.

Smiggy just saw your post.treble is fine.not bright at all. being rear ported they need carefull positioning .
