You would think after 35 years messing with kit i should no better..listen before you buy !

But, after reading reviews bought a pair of mint Evo 30,s from flea bay very cheap, quite a bit of change from £200.

Love the bass department, no boom very, very good.

The top end, oops ! i think the expression is strip paint of the walls. It,s orrible fizz is the best description, some cd,s are unlistenable.

large lounge two rooms knocked into one, solid wood laminate floor, painted walls, which is possible the problem.

Amp is an original Marantz PM 17, cd Marantz again CD 17 mk 2 Signature, cables Atlas voyager, and Ecosse bi-wire set 2 into 4,

cant give the model no but it is the one that uses 2 different cables for bass and treble..cost a fortune about 7 years ago.

Any body got any hints on a different speaker cable or interconnects to tame the top end, open to suggestions.

worse case, keep the amp and cd and there back on flea bay...

See I have the EVO2 30s and the treble can be a bit peaky, but it's nothing like how you describe it. Best plan is, get some new speaker cable (any copper stuff will do, be it £2 a metre or £200) and try it then. They're very nice speakers if you have a large room - they are the loudest speakers I have ever had, that's for sure! They're also my current home-cinema speakers!

Just had a ponder and came up with the following idea: First, try disconnecting and reconnecting the speaker cable at both ends. Then if that fails to improve the sound, put in the metal jumpers and just use two of the bits of cable to connect them (make sure you don't bridge the gap with the remaining ends though!) And if that fails, I suggest you contact Wharfedale directly and run some questions by them - they are normally very willing to help!

problem solved...phew ! i had them slightly toed in. after spending most of this morning trying out different speaker positions, i now have them toed right in. ie...they cross about 2 ft in front of the middle of the couch.

at least there listenable...still reckon they have a bright top end, which is not really my cup of tea, you want a natural top end listen to a well set up pair of BC1,s

Oh no! Not BC1s! I have a hating for them - probably the most overhyped speakers I have ever heard - but that's just my taste! The best treble (and probably one of the best sounds all together) I have heard was on some ProAc Response D Two speakers. Sublime.
