These surge protectors that they try and flog in Comet / Currys and stste that they remove white noise etc etc, are they any good or a waste of money.

Spend some beer money on a Tacima CS929 Mains Conditioners and you will see/hear the difference - subtle but present. Overall balance of your system - hi-fi or a/v is enhanced.
