John Carpenter's Dark Star is a true gem low budget offering, I prefer the older ones like Silent Running, Alien, The Thing & Planet of the Apes (Charlton Heston) as they do not rely to much on CGI!

Simon Lucas:
Seven replies and no one's mentioned Blade Runner? For shame...

It looks better than ever on Blu-ray, and the Director's Cut makes a lot more sense than the original theatrical release.

Indeed Simon - one of the best sci-fi movies ever made (imo)

If you fancy a blatant Alien rip off but done in a Style only the Italian cinema of the early 80's could do then give Contamination a spin availble HERE for a bargain £2.99. This movie was once on the DPP list as a Video Nasty for some stupid reason.

I Am Legend - the Vincent Price version (The Last Man On Earth) is in the public domain, and can be downloaded for free.

The picture quality's not great, and there's no CGI, but I found it more entertaining than the latest film!

And for a true sci-fi classic: Plan 9 From Outer Space

VoodooDoctor: I was disappointed by "I am Legend". The first half of the film was very good. However, having read the book recently, I was peeved that they chickened out of exploring its true ending in favour of a typical "Hollywoodised" happy(-ish) ending.

Another Will Smith film that starts well and then has a poor second half is.........................

Strange, I thought it started bad and got a bit better.Still takes all sorts.

Well i was a bit disappointed by both of those titles, and feel that the best sci-fi films came out in the 60's 70's and 80's, the only problem is pq, which does seem to be exaggerated on a full hd tv.Only a few films have gone over onto blu-ray,so will have to accept it.
