subwoofer with remote control

hi, dont know which subwoofer with remote to choose. tried several subs without remote-got up endlessly to play with settings-a remote is a must. however subs with remotes are serious money. i was going to go for Acoustic energy aelite sub for £300 as price fits my budget to also allow me also to get monitor audio silver 8i floorstanders,but when i switch from classical to ragga/dub will i feel the deep stuff. wish the MJ acoustic pro 150 didnt cost so much. was considering the MJ pro 50,velodyne spl800bve,b&w asw800 if gave up remote idea. some subs also allow connection with speakers which would let me still run my b&w 603 s2 thru my nad c370. got laminate wood floors. my upgrade dreams got shot down by a 25% wage cut but pity money from wife has given me hope again. cheers.

Agree, a r/c sub with pre-sets would make sense in your case. As you use an integrated with tone controls you may find that increasing bass there will also supply any sub connected via speakon/to your speaker terminals with increased low frequencies. Although I haven't tried that myself. It would allow you to set the sub accurately without having to 'fiddle' with it constantly though I personally believe the purpose of a subwoofer is not to be heard as a separate entity but simply to blend in with the rest and subtly add to the experience.

I use a version of the MJ Pro 50. Not the most powerful but fast and musical.

Hi,

I have found that once the sub is set to the level that you think it should be, leave it. Following setting up, if you can't hear the bass, it should not be there. When there is bass on the cd, you will hear it.

I thought there was lots of bass on most of my cd's and sometimes check to see if the cone on the sub is moving. When I switch off the sub, with the same tune, you can tell something is missing. Then put on some dubstep or dance, and you can hear the bass loud and clear.

When you first get your sub, there is a tendency to play with the settings. Play some music that has average bass, like a band, set it up, and leave for a while. Don't set it up using drum and bass or acoustic as you want to find the 'average' volume level. As for the crossover, thats another story!

Do you really want to spend all the extra £££ on a remote? Go for the best quality sub you can buy.

Oh, and have you looked at BK subs. I have not heard them but they have an excellent reputation, and cheap!

Hi and thanks very much for all advise. i agree with all of it and looked hard at 2 bk's. unfortunetly coz best sub for dosh has no remote and i cant decide on the b&w asw608 or mj pro50 mark11 both for music and deep bass quality vs AE aelite with remote. no, its between b&w608 and mj50 mk11-thats tricky. still trying deeply to justify spending xtra £200 for class leadr-MJ AC REF 100 Mk2 SUB, and it has a remote.

lovin the looking.listenen and checkng and pondering bit coz it only comes along every 10 yrs or so for me. just rememberd. does a sub need breaking in like speakers and a hifi bloke told me I'd need connect sub thru speakr points to amp speakr points coz pre-out wasnt much good. cheers again.
