Another satisfied SA1 user here.

I emailed Spendor about break-in time and received a reply stating that the minimum is 50 hours. I found that around 80 is needed before they fully settle down.

Incidentally, mine are placed on the matching stands and driven by Naim pre-power amps. I'm happy with the bass (though I'm sure a good quality sub would probably help the bass side of things).

My SA1 has been running in for just over 50 hrs and the SQ is becoming beter and better. Hope it can settle down after 80--100 hrs.

I have recently added a subwoofer MJ Acoustics Pro50 MkII to my system and now the low frequency is down to 20-30 Hz. If you have time you may wish to look at the following link for more details of my system and performance of SA1:

(click on each photos and you can also see my explanations)

I can only say I am very satisfied with my system now and it will take some time before another major upgrade is considered.

Hey all. I know maybe Im not in the right room, but I see you all know about Spendor SA1 and its one of the options Im considering to buy.

I have a list of the speakers I'd buy. They must to be all small but strong and powerful bookshelves to play House Music. They are:

- PMC DB1i

- Proac Studio 100 or 115 ( maybe a used Response D1)

- Dynaudio Focus 110A

- Spendor SA1

- Harbeth ( any model which is on the same range of the above)

- B&W CM5 or PM1 ( I've heard they are not that good for the type of music I do like but I can consider)

- Dali (I just like so much the Ikon 6 tower so I could get a Ikon 1 or 2.. but maybe they are too big and not as strong as the others. I just considered them because I can get them cheap ).

Please, let me know your guys sincere opnion.

Thank you all so much!

Regards

Ricardo

It very much depends on the type of music you normally listern to as well as the actual size of your room. If you need a lot of bass then you need to add a subwoofer to it.

Of your list of speakers above I have only auditioned PMC DB1 and Spendor SA1 and eventually I choose SA1.

I believe you have seen my link on the measurement on my SA1.

Thanks Inter_Voice . Yes, I see you got a SA1. As said, I do like house music( deep house, vocal house, disco music, lounge music, etc). I do appreciate a very pure vocal added a deep bass but controlled(goes down and up fastly), detailed sound which plays without causing me fatigue. I've heard the CM1 of B&W and they started very well! Very clear and pure sound..detailed.. good bass.. but after 10..15 minutes the they were a little out of control.. the vocal was muddy... causing me fatigue.. the bass was also strange.. etc.. not sure if it would happen to CM5.

I've heard the Proac's got a very pure sound and punchy as well. Have you heard of them? I've also heard good things about Harbeth.

I just need to know which one would play better the type of music I do like. My room is quite small so they must to be small.

Ricardo

Previously I owned a pair of MA RX1 but similar to your experience with some speakers I felt fatigue after long listening. I normally listen to vocals, jazz, acoustics, blues and classical music. Pop and bass heavy music are not my favourite.

I can only say SA1 can reproduce vocals accurately and very pleasant to your ears. I do not have any feeling of fatigue even on very long hours of listening. SA1 is also a fast speaker.

To extend the bass of SA1 I have added to it a subwoofer MJ Acoustucs Pro50 MkII which is small but is very fast and can match well with SA1. The low frequency can go down to 20-30Hz with little distortion. Re the other speakers you mentioned unfortunately I have not been able to have audition and is therefore not in a position to comment.

Don't you have any friend who likes House Music as well? He could listen your speakers playing a Hed Kandi cd and tell me if the sound changes after 30..1 hour.. LOL just joking. Its hard because here in Brazil I can't find them so I will put the trigger in the dark ; )
