subwoofer advice please

Hi all - I wonder if I could pick your collective brains! I have a Kef 1005.2 sun/sat system and find the Kube 1 sub a little uninspiring. I have previously been impressed with Bks XLS 200 and its about the right price but read recently ( in what hifi ) that different sub/sat systems dont always gel. Will I get the upgrade in performance I'm looking for? Or will it all sound a bit incoherent?

Depending on the receiver you're using and the time you have available, you should be able to tune the new sub to integrate perfectly with the little KEF speakers.

I haven't heard (or heard of) that combination before. In isolation the BK is a significant step up from the Kube. I'm not sure how well it'll integrate with the Kef satellites though. Because BK sells direct rather than through dealers it could be tough arranging a demo. I suspect that it'll work very well - it's much easier to integrate a sub than it is to integrate different full range speakers.

I'd say it's worth a punt. If you do decide that you don't like it, you'll find it very easy to sell on a BK as there are plenty of people who don't want to wait while their sub is built to order, especially if you choose a tasteful colour. The gloss black looks the business and is well worth the extra £30.

Nice one. How long do you have to wait for it? I just agreed a deal on a KHT1005.2 package for the bedroom. Post back once you get the BK. Maybe I'll upgrade myself.

Hey Beaver me. It only took a couple of weeks to arrive and it makes a lot of difference! The Kef sub sounds a bit like a 'package sub' if that makes any sense - not that far removed from my old sony dav s series all in one set up, whereas the Bk is clearly a proper bit of kit.... loads more substance and depth to any LFE. Im not totaaly sire I'd choose the Cherry if I was ordering again as it looks a bit fake so go for the black or the Oak perhaps. Sold the Kef sub for a few quid too - winner!
