Subscription Offer

In the Jan mag, an offer for a nice £75 HDMI cable with a direct debit subscription. I buy most editions, so tempted, but the cable is 0.5m long and I don't think it will bridge the gap between AV and TV (partly due to routing through cabinet). A 1.5m (no 1m available) cable would do nicely and I would subscribe in a flash, but since the 0.5 is no good, I am put off the subscription offer.

Is this rational?

Stop being tight and buy one like we all do!!

The mag is tops without the need for freebies!!

Johnny

I have bought the mag and all the cables I need so far!

But I hate the idea of taking the offer and not being able to use the free HDMI cable which is a better one than I would normally buy. ÿ

Okay fair point but I'm sure you could find a buyer for it on some dubious trading site.

If it had been 5m I would have bought it off you!!

I haven't bought the new mag yet, but the HDMI cable is twisting my arm to subscribe. Does anybody have a code to put in to 'my favourite magazines', I have been on the website to subscribe, but can't find the offer.

Thanks for the help, Paul.

Thanks for the quick reply, but it's not recognizing that particular code, I think it has too many digits!!! Is there anything else on there doing it through the website.

Thanks, Paul.

How long does it take to get you free gift after placing the order????

It varies depending on whether we're supplying or it's coming direct from supplier - but we say to leave @30 days, if I remember rightly...

Must admit that this offer almost seems too good to be true!

I've just done a very quick online search - the cheapest I could find this cable for is £65 so I've just taken up this very tempting subscription offer (as my local WHSmith in Reading sells out so quickly that I always struggle and take several visits to get hold of a copy anyway!).

Just wondering whether the direct debit will auto-renew after the first 6 months? (of course I could just wait to receive the subscription confirmation letter in the post, but I'm impatient

so if anyone knows the answer, please.... (Clare?).

I would have done likewise and happily paid extra for a longer cable, say 1 or 1.5m, but as it stands I won't be taking up the offer and get £65 worth of something which I can't use.

I guess WHFSV got a job lot at 0.5m, but must know that is too short for manyÿhomeÿsystems.ÿ

Any comment from WHFSV?ÿ

My girlfriend excelled herself this Christmas by getting me a year's subscription to WHF!! However, she didn't know about the HDMI lead offer, so she didn't enter any code when placing the order. Is there anyway I can still claim it? The magazine itself would obviously be more than good enough on it's own, but if I can still claim the HDMI lead, that would be a really good added bonus.

Thanks

All depends what deal she got - we offer a range of subscriptions deals at any one time, with some offering greater discounts; others gifts. Do you have your subscription number yet? If you email us with this details and/or your name and address, i'll pass it onto the subs department next week (please mark it for attention of Subs Dept).

On the contrary, the 0.5m length was chosen especially to suit people attaching a range of kit to AV receivers (which, let's face it, is a lot of our readers!) - it's ideal to cut down cable spaghetti round the back of your receiver.....

OK, it won't suit people wanting the longer length to their TV/projector - but we've given away 1m and 2m cables before as subs gifts, and sure we will again!

Thanks for the answer, Claire. I have this Alphason cabinet (in a different colour!) which has separate left and right sides.

http://www.standanddeliver.com/acatalog/AMBRI_ABR1100-White.html

The AVR is pretty bIg and needs some air, so it is alone in the left side and the BD and Sky are both in the right, with a Panny plasma on a pedestal on top. All are connected with the HDMIs exiting the cabinet from oneÿapplianceÿand re-entering for the other, as there is not enough room to run them behind the shelves. 0.5 m would not connect either the BD or Sky to the AVR, nor the AVR to the plasma. All have 1.0 m lengths and I can only connect them with the AVR pushed partway back into the cabinet.ÿ

I will keep an eye out for future sub offers. ÿ

Am very tempted by the new subcription offer (Grado headphones RRP ~£35?).

I've left my latest copy of What Hi-Fi at work (nice to have a quick read during coffee breaks!) so I don't have the new subscription offer details to hand.

When I click on the 'Subscribe' link on the What Hi-Fi website, the new offer isn't 'shown!

Clare/Andrew - Please could you advise? Do you have the promotional code please? (I PROMISE that I did purchase the latest copy of your esteemed magazine and am not simply trying to 'pull a fast one'!

Thanks Clare and Andrew! (impressively fast response. Great forum and mag, by the way).

... and the new subscription offer is even better value-for-money than I thought!
