I wondered if anyone knows more on this. Recently i bought the anti-mode 8033 (clibrates your sub for a better EQ for your room) and i use this on two M&K MX-350 subs. Now on the anti-mode, you can use the two output sockets for two subs... 0 deg (in phase) and 180 deg (out of phase). Now is this right...do you switch one of the subs out of phase, so that now one sub is +ive phase and the other sub is -ive phase ? But aren't you counteracting what the anti-mode is doing by doing this ?

As said in previous post AL is the expert , but my understanding is that you would have both your MK-350 switches on positive phase , then connect one to the anti-mode 0deg in phase socket and one to the 180 deg out of phase socket.

This is supposed to prevent phase cancellation between both subs.

I also believe you may have to add extra distance in your AVR due to the same reason , would have thought this was in the manual

Drop AL an email for clarification

This is not as simple as you might think, i have asked Al and i've even got him thinking and he's says he's going to look into it. I have been playing music dvd and blu-rays on it this afternoon with different phasing and when both subs are in the same phase the bass seems a lot louder and deeper, except in the listening position. Everywhere else in the room the bass is almost over powering..except the listening position, which defeats the object of what the anti-mode is supposed to do. When one sub is switched out of phase the bass has an even all round sound...the listening area is a lot wider.

I have found nothing with subs easy , quite the contrary very difficult to set up.

I have tried using the phase switch and found it very difficult to find an definitive position although neg phase seems to be deeper , i am still experimenting with sub positioning.

Even tried measuring , and switching phase on left hand sub has no difference , right hand sub there is a slight measurable difference

Of course as you are finding the room is having the most influence on what you hear, you will never get even bass all around the room

It will always be what you find sounds best to you that matters, not theory

Super,

As Lesmor has rightly pointed out, subs are the most difficult to set-up.

It took me a long time to set up (manually, mind you!) my Mission and Epos sub so that the bass frequencies for both were in tune and seamless to my ears - this was finally achieved about an hour ago!

Persevere and you will be duly rewarded!

If you have Al stumped, then Moonfly is the next expert - he has expert technical knowledge on the subject and hopefully he will be along to help you out soon.

I hear what you are all saying and i guess i'm getting there (slowly). I have tried using a sound meter but they to have their limits when it comes to subs. As a matter of intrest when i looked up on a review of the anti-mode on an american site he said to make sure you have one of the subs out of phase, so there doesn't seem to be a strict rule here. Anyway Al, you have a good time and thanks for the chat.
