Sub integration - Whafedale SW150 or F. jm Lab Cub2?

Hello, I have a dilema and need help. I need a subwoofer to complete my current Whafedale system. I have a very good offer of a Focal lab cub2. In theory this subwoofer is better than the wharfedale SW150 but, on the other hand the SW150 would obviously be the best match in terms of integration. I also have a space problem so the cub2 would fit better in that respect.

My preference regarding bass is deep and fast. I like to actually feel the bass not just hear it, specially for music. I like musical bass to be centered at 80Hz and without much dispersion. Focused and tight.

Question for owners of these 2 subs: I have not had the chance to listen to any of the 2. Do you think that any would fit the specifications above?

General question? Regardless of my preference and space, it is still preffered to stick to the same brand in order to have the best integration possible?

Thanks!

Hi Rendu,

I have a Wharfedale speaker setup: 2x 10.1 , the 10.CS centre and the 10.MX subwoofer. (surrounds are 2 Emotiva ERD-1 bi-pole/di-pole). As far as I know the 10.MX is the new (and downfiring) SW 150. I get lots of good bass. I can feel it too. I am thinking about buying a second 10.MX subwoofer. Integration is not a problem(indeed, same brand). I am sure you will be happy with the Wharfedale sub ( SW 150 or 10.MX). Nice price too (even here in South Africa).

Thanks hendrikj, if you had to describe it, would you say that the bass is tight and focused or would you say that it is more kind of expansive bass? Is it good for music?

I know that SW150 would integrate, the doubt I have is with the Cub2. In theory it is better sub since it cost 100 Eur more but, will it integrate as good as the SW150? That is the main cuestion I have.

Thanks, P.

Hi Rendu,

I am happy with my sub with movies but also with music. My sub takes over at about 50-60 Hertz. I think that for optimal tightness with music you better choose a sealed box design.

Thanks for the answers.

Last try - Anybody could tell me if Focal jm Lab Cub2 would integrate well with the 9.1.?

Thanks
