I'm trying to get a demo of a number of amps and 5.1 systems (I'm really hoping that I can find some style speakers that go well with a Pioneer amp), with one of those being the Dali Fazon 3. The WHF review of the sub isn't especially complementary ("Sub doesn’t quite look the money and doesn’t have quite the zip of the satellites") so I'm wondering about other options. Looks aren't so important to me tho I don't want something that looks cheap/tatty.

Anone have any recommendations as to what subs I should demo with the Fazon 3 speakers? I've not found any subs with mention "zip" rating on their spec sheet. :)

SevenOaks push REL, I like the look of the new B&W, but other than that, I'm clueless.

Thanks

I first saw the Fazon 3 5.1 inc. the E-12F sub in a friends-friend house who was having a party. We arrived early-ish at a time when the nu jazz music's sound volume was low. I didn't take much notice at first as I mingled about chatting away (as you do) until at some point the music changed to House and the volume was rasied considerably. Now, I not suggesting that I was knocked off my feet by what I was hearing but the blend between the sub and sats was bloody excellent and I've desparately wanted this setup since then. Now I not sure what is meant by "... the sub’s not absolutely aligned with the satellites." but I tell you this: The E-12F sub at low and high volume was very, very good and the integration between sub and sats was seemless. Tatty is ain't!!!

Did you take the plunge? There is so much audio equipment on offer these days, mostly of very good quality both in terms of sound and build, that sometimes it seems the problem is deciding which system or combination of equipment to go for; a good thing, me thinks.

I know Hifix has some ex demo Apex speakers and sub for 1500.00 you are not going to beat that.

But if subwoofer only, look at BK or the new SVS range coming to Hifix this week.

I am plumping for the Ultra. You would think I dont like my neighbours, But I do.. >)

Sorry fro the delay in responding Highfield - just moved house and lost internet connection for a week.

I audutioned the B&W MT60 and the MA Apex on Friday. I liked both. B&W was a little bright on Star Trek but great for Beethoven. I thought the Apex was more subdued somehow, tho it may be that I'd just spent over an hour listening to various things on the B&W which was obviously a much bigger step up (from my TV speakers) than it was from the MT60 to the Apex.

I've not found any places near me (Reading) which have the Pioneer and the Dali. I don't mid driving for a bit so I'll widen the search. I want to audition before I buy.

The Apex is a little big (esp the center speaker) for my current living room so in a bit of a quandry. Actually preferred the look of the B&W as well.
