Yes that's the set up I'm thinking of getting!

all my music is ALAC on an iMac in the study - how would I get all my ALAC files onto the NAS?

I'm having to burn all my cds again as they are in mp3 format so have not done this. However, from what I can tell it should be pretty easy - the nas comes with a number of bundled applications you can install. One is called media server, which creates a music, video and photos folder for you that can be accessed by streamers etc. You would just drag and drop your ALAC files into the one on the NAS...

It also has a media manager called audio station which allows you to create playlists and edit metadata etc. All in all it is very user friendly.

PS. I would recommend plugging the nas directly into your computer with an Ethernet cable when transferring lots of files. I did a few wirelessly yesterday and it takes a while. I was worried the synology would be hard to setup but it wasn't. After using the media manager to create the shared folders, I just entered my wireless network details into the M1 Clic and it picked up the NAS folders straight away, including a view by album, artist, playlist etc. Nice and straight forward.
