I have a Rega phono MkIII and was thinking of changing my old Denon PMA250SE for a used Rega Brio R. Should I keep my Rega Phono and use it with the Brio or sell it? Would the built in phono stage in the Brio be as good as the separate Rega Phono?

The Rega Fono range is excellent, and I was pretty sure I’d read that the essential ingredients were also inside the Brio amp. However, if you search this forum, a Rega person is on record as saying the separate stage is better than the Brio or Elicit in-built stages.

I suggest you try for yourself, because if you detect no improvement the Fono is easy to sell on. I had an early Fono Mini for many years, and a later Fono II. When the time came both sold readily on eBay.

I don't believe you will be able to discern any significant improvement by using the external phono stage .
Presumably you have the Fono MM mark3.
The only reason to keep it is if it is the MC mark 3 and you might, at some point, want to use a MC cartridge.
