Hi,

i have just built a windows 7 htpc and i am looking into using it as a front end for my collection of music so i can retire my netgear mp101. I was orignally thinking of using a squeezebox duet but ideally what i would like to do is use my tv as a large display and use my media centre remote to work it. The problem is that my hifi is at the other end of the room and they cant be placed together. Can i buy a squeezebox duet and use the htpc to stream to its receiver? Are there any other options to look a in order to stream the music from my htpc to the hifi?

thanks in advance

You could use the WDTV Live but would need a length of ethernet or a wirelss dongle. Rather than stream, you could stick your music files onto an external HDD and plug this straight into the WDTV Live. The external HDD would also act as an additional backup of your tunes, photos and movies.

thanks for chipping in. I think i need to g read up properly on extenders as i dont fully understand them. The netgear one is rather expensive the linksys is ok price wise but it looks ike it wont pay flac. I think i may just have to get a squeezebox duet. I am keen on getting the good sound quality to and am prepared to get a dac. Ive been reading the squeeze box forums and someone has written a "now playing" program to display on your tv.

Yes. But if you use an exernal HDD you won't need to boot up the PC to lisen to your tunes. Moreover, the WDTV Live will also play back photos and videos
