strange distortion

hello,

ive tried connecting an aiwa turntable that came with a midi hifi to my pioneer amp via the sockets marked phono, when i do this i have a lot of distortion come through my speakers with the music. i then tried plugging it in the line in sockets and it works perfect. can anyone tell me why this is?

Some aiwa turntables had a phono stage built in. There's a thread from ages ago that refers, will try to dig it out.

Good old Iron Butterfly, eh? Just watched Red Dragon for the first time (having been a fan of Manhunter since, like, 1988) and it adheres more slavishly to the book, but is otherwise a pale imitation........
