Although a lot of my listening is through Spotify I do spin the odd cd still. Just updated my collection of BBC Jazz Awards for a few pennies.

I quite agree. They are cheaper than ever, and while everyone else is worrying about NAS, usb, and lots more acronyms, we can be enjoying the music (which will never be in the wrong format or not backed up)!

Not that I would say no to a hi-def streamer...

CD still sounds the best to me, spotify is quite a bit inferior to CD , but still listenable and 'almost hifi' but somethings lacking , like presence and emotion,

And I cant be bothered with all this ripping to disc in that format and the other format etc. lossless, flac, blah blah blah

I just want to keep it simple, put a disc on, and have great sound.

here here. Predominanty I now rip them rather than play them, but (a) CDs are nearly always cheaper than iTunes and MP3 downloads, even moreso used CDs, so why would I chose them over a CD, and (b) they'll take away my Marantz CD63 mk2 KI when they pry it from my cold dead fingers.

Agree. Although a lot of my listening are FLAC files via various streamers, I just visited Amazon and purchased a bunch of CDs and SACDs. Still like to read the liner notes when listening to something new, just like in the old days with vinyl.

I agree wholeheartedly, but I have noticed prices of new CD's on Amazon are creeping up... I feared this might happen with the demise of HMV

I ripped my collection to flac about 18 months ago but oddly I can't even recall the last time I bought a cd. All my recent music purchases have been on the black stuff

There's plenty of life left in both formats, and whilst the price of much new vinyl is so high I'll still be buying CDs for the forseeable future.

Not really. I'd go as far as to say that Internet Radio via my Squeezebox Touch is probably my primary source these days.

I can't forget CD playback, that's why I have a micro system. IMO, sound is so spacious in CD.

One problem with downloads compared to CDs is there's no such thing as a legal used-market. I find I buy most of my CDs second-hand these days and save a fortune by doing so, and unlike used records, mostly you don't have to worry about them being noisy and unplayable. With records, I learned long ago that some sellers' idea of 'mint' is my idea of 'knackered'.

Quite true. I have also encountered a few 'mint' examples...

CD's are not dead and probably will not be (along with SACD's for that matter) until all music is available as a hi-res download and looking at all we have on the market right now, that isn't going to be for quite a while, if ever!

when I try inernet radio stations on my pc its sounds mostly bad, ie very compressed sometimes 'tinney' etc . Spotify sounds miles better, Am I doing something wrong? its all goes through a CA dacmagic Yamaha AS500 and AE evo3 speakers

Yes I had that problem on some, it is best play it through sometime like Windows media player, there should be a list on the site, there is on Radio Paradise.

Contrary to most views, can't see CD format ever dying. Indeed, as with vinyl, and with newer formats it'll be less popular... still a great way of gaining a sonic "fix" without the worry of the PC going pear-shaped.

I take a ditigal feed from an iPod classic, but when the latest version of iTunes stopped letting me access my iPod, I was glas that I could still play CDs.

After listening to all my music almost exclusively on shuffle, I've started listening to CDs again and enjoying the album experience.

Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer CD where I can have the front & back cover with booklet to see all the information, credits & read the lyrics. Something you can touch & feel just like newspaper

Some downloads you get all the sleeve and liner notes, you can view on screen or print them off.
