Hello

Which stands would suit my pair of EB1 better:

Partington Super Dreadnought or Atacama Aurora 6?

Do the Aurora need to be filled?

Thanks for your time!

They're both VERY good stands so only really you can make that decision

Ideall the Atacama stands should be filled and you can fill them with standard atabites or some of the coloured atabites that Atacama do

I have mine on the Aurora 6, filled with white marble chips (fits in with the room decor) and sounds and looks pretty amazing to me.

Did you have any issue with scratching the glass and where did you get them from.(the chips)

No scratches all as far as I can tell. I got them from a local garden centre - 2 bags of decorative white marble chippings at £3 each - job done.

Apollo do some good stands, well made for very reasonable money.

Go for the Partingtons. You will find them hard to beat. They are so heavy there is little point in filling them with anything. If you are going to that extreme you might as well bolt them to the floor!

Not literally. I mean think of the poor carpet!

If you really must see the nice glittery bits then go for the lightweight Auroras.

Thanks for your replies.

None of the shops here in Switzerland stock these speaker stands so I was going to order them from the UK.

Can it really be that the shipping cost for a parcel from the UK to Switzerland is double the cost of shipping that same parcel to Italy?

I feel like Im being had here...

Hoi Rjes,

I'm also out in CH, and had a similar issue, however it seems that stand and deliver have a european site, which does deliver here.

URL is http://www.standanddeliver.eu

If you compare the prices, (considering the current week Euro to the CHF) prices are now very similar to the GBP prices. The only problem is that, CH isn't listed (as it's non-EU) so i'll give them a call tomorrow to clarify that.

Incidently, which shops did you find with shipping to CH?

I was also all set on the Aurora 6s, until I read on here about them being lightweight.....We'll soon have a nipper causing mischief so I'm now wondering if the Super Dreadnoughts may be a better set. (BTW - I'm going to use them with a set of B&W 685s as surrounds, got 684s coming as fronts

For what its worth I've got mine sat on a pair of sand filled Atacama SE24's and they're rock solid, and sounding good.

£20.00 off a well known auction site 3 years ago. Not the prettiest but do the job no problem.

I ordered my Super Dreadnoughts today from audioaffair. I didn't like the idea of the glass speakers potentially being somewhat unstable. I guess I won't have that issue with the heavy and sturdy Dreadnoughts.

In the end, there price was far cheaper than standandeliver, but the shipping somewhat more expensive, so it did work out a little cheaper.

They've already been shipped this evening

both are good stands and are recommended by most magazines.

if you want the glass look and ability to fill with coloured stuff then go with the Atacama - otherwise the partington stands are sturdier and give a slightly better overall performance
