Here I go again! At the risk of being called fickle, I'm curious as to how the Spendor A6 sounds compared with the PMC FB1i?

From reviews and opinions, I gather both these speakers share the same traits i.e. open, engaging, superb soundstage and imaging. Which one has better bass extension?

Has WHF done a comparo between these two excellent speakers since they almost cost the same?

Can you not audition them yourself Fickle, instead of relying on someone else's ears? ;o)

The bass on the A6s sounded more natural to me with better timing. I also found the midrange to be smoother on the A6s. The treble on the A6s was far superior to my ears. All in all I thought the A6s were more natural sounding but I still think the FB1is are very engaging.

The FB1i's will have the edge on the bottom end but choosing between the two wil depend on your electronics. What are you using and what do you listen to?

As mentioned, the electronics will play a part, but you'll find the Spendors a little more laid back than the PMC's, which will come across more lively, particularly at the lower end.

I find the Spendors more evenly balanced and preferable for my listening, but if I was limited by volume, the PMC's would definitely be on the audition list.

Well, I can, but as I explained in the other threads, I'll need to travel 200km to audition them. What makes it even more difficult is that the Spendors and the PMCs are sold by different dealers so I have no way of auditioning them together with the same electronics

I used to own an Audiolab 8000A amp and Marantz CD63MkII K-I Sig cdp but sold them off more than 10 years ago. So now I'm starting from scratch all over again.

As indicated in my other threads, I'm considering Roksan Kandy K2 set-up or Naim XS or Cyrus CD 8 SE. I listen mostly to R&B, gospel, rock, and choral stuff too.

listen to the speakers first and worry about the rest later as they make the most difference to the sound

if you specify the amps you want the dealers will try and find one that doesnt sound too different

this happens all the time so you have to accept the comptomise

you can always buy the speakers you really like first then take them along to other dealers to hear what the rest of the equipment sound like

so get the morning shuttle and head down to kl to do some speaker listening

Well, they are both available in Malaysia too. It's just that I cannot audition them together in one place using the same electronics.
