I listen to a lot of prog metal such as Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, King's X etc. and wonder if my speakers are hiding detail from me as although the sound is great it still feels very dense. I love my Wharfedale 9.1s but they are kind of warm alongside my NAD setup and Archos 5 which I use with FLAC or MP3 as high bitrate as possible.

Max budget £500 for an upgrade, any thoughts?

Firstly I love Porcupine Tree probably my all time favourite bands.......Can you accomodate a floorstander...? May be look at the Mordaunt - Short Aviano 6..........and if you can't then try their standmount juniors. I think there is a new Aviano 2 XR coming out which may also do the trick.
