Right now I'm spinning "Beethoven The Symphonies Riccardo Chailly Gewandhausorchester" Decca, 2011.
Alright friends, I know it's a CDP, but hey it still spins eh? In addition I'm afraid I don't own a LP spinner.
Anyhow, more to the point, I picked up the limited edition boxed set for £21 last week. Apparently this is the second oldest Orchestra in Germany and I believe all the players are amateur but most certainly not low class artists. The hall in which this Orchestra does it's recording has fabulous acoustics and this was recorded to proper studio quality. I've been looking for this particular boxed set for a while and often it's a whole lot more than what I paid.
I own eight sets of the Beethoven Symphonies and today I get the chance to go through this one. It's very highly rated by reviewers and I can see why. I think this could be my favourite set now, even over the famous Karajan, 1963, Berlin Philharmonic version.
